Dr. Frank Longden was appointed as a newly-graduated doctor to Buninyong in 1888, and served the people of Buninyong and district until his death in 1938. This house was built in 1892 as a wedding present from his bride’s father to his daughter on the occasion of her marriage to Dr. Longden. This area was part of the estate of the Wurundjeri-bulluk clan of the Woiwurung Tribe. Kinship and marriage links with the people of the Goulburn River area are described. ESCAPE TO ELTHAM traces the family of John and Anna Lane who lived in Shanagolden in County Limerick during the early and middle parts of the 1800s. They lived during a time of conflict and famine. This story follows the movements of their son, Richard, and daughter, Anne, who migrated to Australia. The marriage of Anne to Tobias Butler and Richard's life establishing his farm on the Yarra River in the 1850s are explored. Marriage, children, deaths and a murder in 1861 are changes forced on the family. Richard's son, Patrick, marries a young Bridget Carrucan but when the global recession of the 1890s decimates Patrick's businesses he heads to the arid Western Australian goldfields to 'make his fortune'. The large family follows and settles in Boulder where the behaviour of a couple of the boys gets them into scapes with the law. In 1999, an archaeological dig was undertaken at the Viewbank Homestead site in Viewbank. This set of photographs was taken at the dig site in 1999. The house was built c1840 by James Williamson; it was later purchased by George Gear as a wedding gift to his daughter on her marriage to Dr Robert Martin. It became a grand mansion in the late 1800s but by the 1920s, it was stripped bare of materials and demolished in the 1920s. The dress was made for Rosalie Schwerkolt for her marriage to Marvin Bruce Whalen at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Gardiner, Victoria on Wednesday 1st June, 1966 and afterwards at Butleigh Wootton, 867 Glenferrie Road, Kew. Rosalie was married from 33 Straughton Road, Glen Iris.Rosalie is the great granddaughter of Johann August Schwerkolt, pioneer of Mitcham.1966 wedding dress of silk, velvet in Winter White colour lined in silk voile. The dress is a princess line with round crew neck. Sleeves are narrow and taper to a point using a dart and with a zipper fastening on seam. The arm seam also features three pleats at the inside of the elbow crease. The back has a zipper closing and princess line seams. The gown is full length at the front and at the back extends to a point for a 40cm train using an insert gore in the princess seam. Alice Amelia Holloway married Arthur William Brooke in 1897 in Melbourne, Victoria. Alice was 25 years old at the time of her marriage. Alice died in 1959 in St. Kilda, Victoria. Her parents were James Charles Holloway and Mary Martha Bennett. Alice was born at Indigo via Rutherglen in 1872. This is her in her wedding finery. Pair of embroidered doyleys for cake or sandwich trays made by Mary Burke of Dooboobetic in the 1920s. After her marriage to Michael Taffe in 1940 Mary moved to Ballarat and many of her embroideries remain in the house. They range from duchess sets to doyleys such as these. simple embroidery was taught to young girls in schools up until post-World War II.

Henty House, formerly ‘Roxeth’, is a Gothic Revival house, now a part of Trinity Grammar. It was built by 1856 for George Lewis. ‘Roxeth’ was purchased by James Henty in 1863. He gifted it to his son’s wife, Frances Emma Henty (nee Murphy), daughter of Sir Francis Murphy, as her marriage settlement after she and Herbert James Henty married in 1861.
