Booklet, A band of gypsies: employees of Niel Black & Co in the pre-goldrush era: a work in progress

Historical information

Niel Black was an early settler in the Western District of Victoria who held large tracts of land including Glenormiston and The Sisters estates. Black was responsible for bringing many employees to the area. The employees' names, birthplace, arrival date, marriage partner/s, other employers are tabulated. An overview of Black's properties and conditions of the time is also included.

Significance

This booklet documents those who came to the Western District to work for Niel Black prior to the goldfishes of the 1850s.
