The site of H A ("Herbie") Sherriff's business, Emerald Motors, was a former blacksmith's shop on the corner of Main Road and Kilvington Road. The sign over the shop bears the word "PLUME": This was a "motor spirit" (fuel) produced by Standard Oils and sold in Australia 1916-1954.The signage and the two cars visible (one late model and one early) establish the time the photograph was taken. As steam sterilisation became standard practice various types of sterilisers evolved. Water in the steriliser was heated to boiling point either by gas or by methylated spirit burners. Primus Stove
The stove was the property of John Biggart, who lived in Avonsleigh. He travelled Victoria from 1920 to the 1940's. The stove was used at a work camp site.Brass base containing the kerosene fuel tank, above which rises a burning tube and burner assembly. The steel top rings are held above the burner by 3 support legs. To light the stove, a small amount of alcohol is put into the spirit cup, just below the burner to preheat it. This is a vintage lamp of unusual design. It would have been used in the first half of the 20th century for household lighting.Coleman lamps were originally designed by William Coffin Coleman around 1900. They run on a variety of spirit and fuels such as kerosene producing a clear white light. This is an interesting example of an early household lamp, retained for display purposes.This lamp has a brass base supporting a composite material vertical handle. On top of the handle is a circular glass bowl surrounding the metal mechanism. There is white printing etched on the glass. The base has a pumping plunger to enhance the quality of the light. This vase was gifted to ANZCA during a visit to the college by fifteen members of the Chinese Society of Anesthesiology (CSA). This visit signified an exchange of education, research and friendship. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the ANZCA President, David A Scott, and the President of the CSA to signify the spirit of collaboration. Medium sized, round shaped vase, glazed red, possibly lacquerware, decorated with raised relief creme coloured dragons among scrolling clouds. Attached to a square brown plinth. Bunny II was built by Australian Army air corps personnel from the 161 Possums using salvaged parts in Vung Tau, Vietnam, in 1970. This Unibic Limited Edition ANZAC Biscuit tin is one of a series produced in 2014 to commemorate 100 years 1914 - 2014 of World War 1, focusing on the Victoria Cross, The Anzac Biscuit Story and The RSL Story. The included paper sheet explains the Victoria Cross in full detail. The RSL and Modern Baking Pty Ltd in Broadmeadows provided this product.A medium sized rectangular Limited Edition green and gold lidded Anzac Biscuit Tin with an old brown and grey toned photograph image of soldiers of the 5th Division in a motor car. The lettering for the tin is stamped in red and white at the top of the lid with Limited Edition in gold. At the bottom of the tin is written - Australian 5th Division 500g including a gold coloured embossed Rising Sun Badge. There is a brief explanation about the 5th Divisional Motor Car's location on one side of the tin as well as an explanation of the meaning of the Rising Sun Badge on the other side. The back of the tin has information about The Anzac Biscuit Story and a recipe. Inside the tin there is a folded brochure about the seven 2019 Limited Edition Tins that were available at the time.As stated above there is the name of the tin 'Limited Edition ANZAC Biscuit' with details of the tin's meaning for the Australian 5th Division.
