Understood to be a copy of the drawing used on Ballarat TV channel 6's Christmas card for 1971. 890.2 - same drawing printed on one half of dark orange heavy paper, but without the words "from BTV6". Has Bendigo bogie car in background. Also the Beehive building and Ezywalkin shoes. Nucolorvue postcard BE41 on rear and other information in green ink. 963.2 - "Tram No. 25, a maximum traction car built in 1916. Now operated by The Bendigo Trust between Central Deborah Mine and Emu Point." Features No. 25 in Bendigo Trust colours with Coca Cola and Bendigo Timber Co ads on the roof. On nearby pole is a "Bendigo Talking Vintage Tram" signs. In background is the Beehive building and other buildings near Charing Cross. Newspaper clipping from The Courier, 6/8/1971 about the request by the BTPS to approve in principle the operation of a working tramway museum in Ballarat. Mentions track in Wendouree Parade, temporary storage of trams in the depot, tramcars to be allocated to the BTPS, findings of the Tourism Committee and comments from Councillors. Also notes statement by Mr. Tom Evans about the approval of the SEC for the used of the existing depot for storage until the new depot is built. Suggest that a bogey (bogie) be kept to enable the reconstruction of a horse tram. Set of two newspaper clippings pasted onto a single sheet of paper with two Punch holes on the left hand side. First clipping from The Age, p4, dated May 31, 1971 of the setting up of the BTPS by a group of young people the previous day. Has photo of a group taking a photo of the driver (Mr. Les Bird) holding the trolley pole rope. Notes that they hope to keep six trams going, tram to be operated on a voluntary basis similar to Puffing Billy, many of the group were Melbourne students and that the Ballarat contingent was consciously small. The first cutting also has a small piece on the top edge, cut out from the same newspaper referring to the article on page 4, titled "TRAMS". (Source newspaper advised by Alan Bradley 5/7/02 and updated). Second is from The Courier, Ballarat, 8/6/1971, about a Murray River paddle steamer company writing to the City of Ballaarat offering to undertake a feasibility study and discuss with Council the operation of pleasure craft on Lake Wendouree, Also mentions the establishment of the BTPS and its proposals and its letter to Council. First clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, Monday, 31/5/1971, titled "Society formed to Preserve Trams" (newspaper date, with page 2), about the formation the previous day of the BTPS at a meeting of the Lake Wendouree Tramway Museum Committee with a membership of 55 people to retain a tourist tram system for Ballarat. Gives names of the elected office bearer, details of proposals, some costs, alternative sites and that a tram was chartered before the meeting. 1071.1 - photocopy of the article added 24/1/2008. Has the names of those elected highlighted in pink ink. Second cutting dated "14/7/71" from the Courier titled "Three stage plan for phasing out of trams" of the three stage plan for phasing out of the trams in Ballarat. The plan was announced by Transport Regulation Board the previous day. Clipping from the Courier, Ballarat, Monday April 19, 1971, titled "Move to Keep some trams for Tourists" front page as it gives the price (of 6 cents) and number of pages (16), with the article about the first positive move to establish a working tramway museum in Wendouree Parade as a historical feature and tourist attraction was made with the formation of a project committee yesterday. Covers the formation of the Lake Wendouree Tramways Museum Committee, 50 people attending the meeting at Brown Hill, mentions Mr. Maurice Calnin, Mr. C. (Bill) Jessup, (spelt Jessop) and gives notes on proposals, other similar museum and potentials. Item was spread over two pages, second part on page 13. Black and white photograph of the intersection of Sturt and Lydiard Sts from the Post Office, looking towards Ballarat Town Hall, c1910. In foreground of photograph is a ESCo tram, without windscreens hauling a horse tram (east bound) and on the other side of Sturt St. a single ESCo tram. Many people walking the street. On top of photograph is the words "Town Hall and Sturt Street, Balla", the rest of the words having been cropped out. The trailer is one of the seven window horse trams. Black & White Photograph of one of the ESCo Toastracks being assembled in the Exhibition Buildings in Grenville St., north of the Alfred Hall in 1905. The other open Toastrack or Summer tramcar is behind this tram, with other California Combination cars on the sides. The trams have yet to be fitted with wheels or equipment, including headlights. Note the front dash panel has been painted, but no headlight opening or cut out. The print for this photograph made from a copy negative of page 454 of the Australasian, August 19, 1905 in 1993. Print includes caption (all in caps) "Summer Traffic Car: to be used in trips to and from the Gardens. It is without sides, and has reversible backs. Ballarat Electric Tram Service". See Reg. Poster - Glass, Poster, Ballaarat Tramway Co. Ltd, 1889
Sheet of glass, cut to a shape, with the Ballaarat Tramway Co. By-laws - original copy, adhered to the one surface of the glass. See also item 783 or details of the By-Laws. proclaimed by the City of Ballaarat April 6?1889 and gazetted April 5 1889. Has 25 different by-laws. See item No. 1 for details of horse tram. Sheet of glass with the by-laws was found in one corner of the horse tram No. 1 when recovered. Sheet of glass was cracked in two locations and the paper of the by-laws has adhered to the glass. There is also a section of glass missing in the top right hand corner of the glass. When salvaged, placed onto a sheet of cardboard and lengths of sticky tape run across the glass and the cracks in the glass to keep it on the cardboard. Since removed from the cardboard and placed on sheets of acid - free board. Handle with care. Not to been used in an exhibition until full conservation treatment carried out.trams, tramways, law and order, by laws, horse trams -
