It would appear from the insulators in the overhead, that the line has been duplicated to the terminus (1934 - Melbourne Timeline history book). Model packaged in a wooden packing case with a red felt base, contained within a card board outer case. The card board cover or case has a printed sheet giving details of the model and the history of the W5 Class tramcar. The wooden case has a brass plate detailing the contents. Scale 00 or 1:76. Model made from plastic and metal, with operable lights and motors with operable trolley poles, swivelling bogies, destination of St Kilda, showing route 16. Headlights function in the direction of travel. Package has manufacturing date of 2008 printed on it. Has several motor vehicles in view is an Ezywalkin advert on a building. The tram entered service on 17/11/1928 and was fitted with route number boxes during Feb. 1930, which dates the photo to c1929. Titled "Speed Tests - PCC Type Car No. 980 - June 1950", marked "Chairman's Copy", dated 17 July 1950, prepared by the MMTB Testing Department, Report No. S21/1/2. Gives details of testing done to determine the coasting characteristics of the tram, with crush, seated or no load. Tested in Miller St, Preston. Also reports on the maximum speed compared to car 888, and scheduled speed. Has appendices with the actual data. Conclusion on page 3 - that 980 would show an improvement of about 5% in schedule speed of SW6 cars. ... NASTAR Racing Bib No. 17 ...National Standard Race (abbreviated NASTAR) is the world's largest recreational ski and snowboard race program which was founded in 1968 by SKI magazine. It uses a handicap system which allow skiers and boarders of all abilities to have a go at racing and compare their times to the best racers in the world. NASTAR courses are simple, open-gated slalom courses on mostly intermediate terrain, allowing skiers of all abilities and ages to experience racing. The NASTAR race course at Falls Creek is still the home of the Rossignol Children's Cup and the Cranky Charlie Cup each year, conditions permitting.This item is significant because it is linked to the NASTAR events held at Falls Creek throughout the 1980s.A paper number bib used by a participant in the NASTAR ski event at Falls Creek.
