Two A4 sheets. The article gives a short history of the development of the Geelong tramway system, replacement of petrol buses, extensions to Belmont, Chilwell and North Geelong. Gives track construction details, track renewals from 1924 (concrete stringers replacement), trolley wire, power supply (550V DC), rolling stock, Birney trams, services, fares, passenger numbers and the new SEC green uniforms. Has a photo of the Geelong depot with senior staff named and a photo of a tramwayman in the new Green uniform. Trams 27,30, 5, 23 and 6. Record revised 3/4/2019 to add digital images with those from Andrew Cook CD. Uniform - Cap, Commonwealth Government Clothing Factory Melbourne, 1950's
3044.1 SEC (Geelong) Motorman/Drivers/Conductors cap - green cloth exterior, grey cotton interior lining, brown leather internal hat band, black cotton hat band on exterior. Black plastic peak fitted with cap or with four holes for the employee badge number in the centre of the cap above the hat band. Sewn on the inside is a label "Commonwealth Government Clothing Factory Melbourne" and stamped "7 3/8". The plastic band at the front half of the cap terminating in two small SEC metal buttons on either side is not present. The holes for this are not visible - may not have been present on Geelong caps? 3044.2 - two small SEC Button badge - nickel plated silver with "Stokes" "Vic" stamped on rear. See also Reg. Has Government Printer, H. E. Daw, number 11928/43. Given the printing number on Reg. Item 3110 is a lower number and that the H. Green was the Government Printer in 1936 (See Reg. Ltd. / Geelong Electric Tramways / Rules and Regulations / For Motormen and Conductors / And Bye-Laws". Provides 76 General Rules for crews and 34 Bye-Laws. Bye-Laws jointly authorised by City of Geelong, Borough of Newtown and Chilwell and Borough of Geelong West, under the provisions of the Tramways Act 1890. Dated 1929. Each copy has a book number stamped on the top right hand corner of page 1. Copy 1 - 739 Copy 2 - 765 Copy 3 - 766 Replaced by Reg. Item 3109 in 1932 by the SEC. Demonstrates production of souvenirs of the era - folded postcards. The photos could also be used for individual postcards.Set of 15 black and white views of Geelong printed on a folded strip, glued within a manila colour cardboard folder, titled "Geelong Photographic Souvenir". Booklet printed with an address area with title and kookaburras and on the rear, an area where the sender could write their name. Produced by The Valentine Publishing Co. Pty Ltd Melbourne. The rear has a slit on the rear cover that allowed the folder to be secured. Pictures are: 1. Panorama of Eastern Beach Geelong 2. Eastern Beach Gardens 3. Eastern Beach 4. Notes history of dispute, MMTB, SEC, Adelaide, Hobart, Launceston, Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong. Details basis for decisions of Contract of Employment, additional rates for trackman, time allowance at commencement and finish of duty, meals, training of traffic employees, special night allowances, margins. On bottom of page 5, the formal award commences: gives details of award duration, rates of pay, contract of employment, margins compared to the basic award, additional rates, hours of labour, shift work, overtime. holiday work, call forward and call back to duty, spread of hours, Saturday and Sunday work, special night allowances, time allowance at commencement and finish of duty, attending for duty, reporting for duty, meals, acting out of grade, surpluses and shortages, annual leave, sick leave, free travel uniforms, training of traffic employees, reports, union notices and punishments. Was stapled for all 13 pages with three staples on left hand side. Pages 10 to 13 have become unstapled. Demonstrates uniform cap manufacture, badge and has a strong association with a former Ballarat Driver - Jock Menzies.SEC Motorman/Drivers/Conductors cap - green cloth exterior, grey cotton interior lining, brown leather internal hat band, black cotton hat band on exterior with a plastic band at the front half of the cap terminating in two small SEC metal buttons on either side, black plastic peak fitted with cap or badge No. 60, nickel plated silver, in the centre of the cap above the hat band.
