The Victorian Railways J class was a branch line steam locomotive operated by the Victorian Railways (VR) between 1954 and 1972. A development of the successful Victorian Railways K class 2-8-0, it was the last new class of steam locomotive introduced on the VR. In 1974, the Royal Blind Society established within it's manufacturing division a facility to build high quality tandems for blind and partially sighted members of its sports club. By the end of 1978, the manufacturing division expanded and a new series of high quality, hand built racing cycles were developed to suit the individuals needs of the cycling enthusiast. A demand in the bicycle hire industry prompted the development of a strong universal bicycle and the new 24" Mixti family cycle was born. By 1979 the Royal Blind Society was manufacturing both family bicycles and tandems for the bicycle hire industry in N.S.W., Victoria and the A.C.T. Both cycles received an enthusiastic reception, so much so, that in 1982 they were the first bicycle manufacturer to win an Australian Design Award. Document - Plans, Andrew Wood, Building plans associated with Andrew Wood, builder of Surrey Hills, 1920s
These plans were associated with Mr Andrew Wood, a contract builder who worked in the 1920s and built many Californian bungalows in Surrey Hills and surrounding suburbs. Andrew Wood was born in Chiltern in 1861 to Andrew and Ellen Wood (MS: Green). His father had emigrated from Falkirk, Scotland. As a young man Andrew worked as a carpenter in the mines in South Africa (c 1899). He married Eleanor Agnes Stuchbery in Hamilton, Victoria in May 1901. They had 5 children - Doris (M Roberts), Robert Andrew, Donald Allen, Jean (M Cowan), and Gwenyth (M Bray). The first 2 children were born in Hawthorn; the other 3 in Surrey Hills. The family home at 286 Canterbury Road, Surrey Hills (on the corner of Middlesex Road) was built by Andrew. Andrew died in 1940; Eleanor died in 1977, aged 100 years. After Eleanor's death the house was sold and demolished. Surrey Lighting was established on the site. Gwenyth May Wood (3 May 1917, Surrey Hills - 5 Jan 2004) married Leslie David Charles Bray (1921-1983). Gwenyth was the donor's mother. These four photographs were most likely taken in the mid-1980s in Lithographic Squadron at the Army Survey Regiment, Fortuna, Bendigo. The equipment operated by the technicians is the KLIMSCH camera. The main tasks undertaken by the technicians were most likely enlargements and reductions of map reproduction material. The KLIMSCH Commodore camera was introduced in 1953 and was the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. It was replaced with a new model of the same size in 1979. The new model with its computer-based interface provided productivity gains with improved speed and its consistent results led to less wastage in time and materials. Its variomat lens system provided improved retention of map feature linear weights during the camera reduction process. The camera which was specially made for the Army in Germany was fully automatic and power operated. It was claimed to be one of the biggest automatic cameras of its type in the world. It was made to the specifications of the Royal Australian Army Survey Corps to assist in the production of the very high standard maps for the Army. This is a set of four photographs of technicians operating the KLIMSCH Camera at the Army Headquarters Survey Regiment, Bendigo c1985. Vehicle - Holden model FB sedan, 1960 - 1961
The FB was promoted as being longer, lower, more spacious and more powerful than the FC model, but in reality it was only slightly so on each count overerall length was 5.5 inches (140 mm) greater, although the wheelbase remained the same. The engine bore was still 3 inches (76 mm), the last model with that specification. Engine capacity was 138 cubic inches (2.16 L) but the compression ratio was raised. However, the resulting extra 4 brake horsepower (3 kW) of power did not compensate for the greater weight of the FB, so performance was inferior to that of its predecessor. Changes were also made to the brakes, front coil springs, air cleaner and clutch. Obvious styling differences were the lower bonnet, finned rear mudguards with new taillights (on the sedans and wagons only) and a wrap-around windscreen. Seating was improved, as was the instrument panel. A refinement of the FC model but appearance significantly changed with a wraparound windscreen, lower bonnet and finned rear guards.. This vehicle was purchased in NSW The interior was in excellent condition bur required extensive exterior work to bring it back to its original condition, It had a mileage of 8500. Skoda 7.5 cm Model 15, The Skoda 7.5 cm Gebirgskanone M15 mountain gun, 1911-1914
The Germans bought some guns during World War I, but used them as infantry guns in direct support of the infantry where their light weight would allow them to move with the infantry. They complained that the guns were too fragile and didn't have a high enough muzzle velocity to act as an anti-tank gun. Considering that the guns were designed to be disassembled it's not too surprising that they couldn't stand the abuse moving through the shell-pocketed front lines on the Western Front.This particular Gun was captured by Australian Soldiers at the Battle of ST Martins Wood near Ypres in the 3rd Battle for the Somme. The German crew were all killed as were a number of AustraliansThe Skoda 7.5 cm Gebirgskanone M. 15 was a mountain gun used by Austria-Hungary in World War I. In German service it was known as the 7.5 cm GebK 15. Its development was quite prolonged as the Austrians couldn't decide on the specifications that they wanted. Initially they wanted a gun that could be broken-down into no more than 5 pack-animal loads to replace the various 7 cm mountain guns in service, but prolonged trials proved that the 7.5 cm M. 12 prototype to be the best gun. The guns were delivered beginning in April 1915 instead of the planned date of April 1914. For transport, the gun could be dismantled into 6 parts, generally carried in 4 loads. Top part of page has typed black ink describing instructions on how to fill in lined section below, beneath headings reading -GOLSBROUGH, MORT & COMPANY LTD, MELBOUNRE- and -OWNER'S OR CLASSER'S SPECIFICATION OF WOOL CLIP-. Lower two-thirds of page is bordered with pink lines and split into six coloumns under headings. Fields can be filled in with information about wool lip/size/wiehgt/quality/bale stencil number/etc. Reverse of page is the same. Page has one vertical fold line in the centre and three horizontal fold lines. Birrell Details the formation of the MTA, The Met or the Metropolitan Transit Authority from the MMTB in 1983, the changing nature of the fleet, depots and allocations of tramcars, listing of tram classes, with various technical specifications, including tramcar numbers and photographs. For the B class, includes those which were not in service at the time of publication. Two separate allocation listings are given, the last one being that at 19/9/1988. Various PartiesReference, Research, InformationKHS OrderSubject file relating to the Australian artist A M E Bale who lived at 83 Walpole Street, Kew (Vic). The file contains a great deal of photocopied biographical information, as well as some newspaper articles/clippings. In 1981, the Kew Historical Society applied for the house to be registered by the Historic Buildings Preservation Council of Victoria. Accompanying the application was a citation by Timothy Hubbard (1981). A reply by the Boyce Pizzey, from the Council (1 May 1981) indicated that the building was of “insufficient architectural or historic importance” to warrant registration. The letter also indicated that the current owners had been requested to provide “a professional photographic record of the house and contents and submit these, along with all specifications and drawings, to the Latrobe Library, Melbourne”. Agreement made the 3rd of January 1958 between Thomas James Roberts of 1 Ashley Street, Bendigo builder) and Peter William Tieman and Edith Ruby Tieman both of 60 Hodgkinson Street, Bendigo (owners) whereas the owners have land in Specimen Hill Road and have requested he builder to erect a dwelling house thereon. There 8 clauses on the agreement. There is also a sheet detailing the specifications for the build. Price: 2,300 pounds. Also, a paper signed by T. J. The Hepburn Pool was built in Spring Creek during the 1930s by the Zelman's of Bellinzona Guest House. Released in August 2004, the VZ series was a minor facelift of the previous VY series that featured a new V6 engine in different tune guises. The powerplants included 175 and 190 kW (235 and 255 hp), 3.6-litre Alloytec V6 engines in place of the older 3.8-litre Ecotec V6. Other changes to the V6 was the loss of the supercharger that was included in the S models The VZ Commodore was available in several model variations, most of which carried over from the VY range, with the exception of the newly introduced SV6, a specification level that replaced the S range. All models in the Commodore range (Executive, Acclaim, Berlina, Calais, SV6, SV8 and SS) were available as sedans. The advanced 3.6-litre Alloytec engines were more powerful, responsive and fuel-efficient than the outgoing Ecotec V6. To achieve 190 kW (255 hp), the Alloytec V6 gains variable valve timing on both inlet and exhaust sides as well as a dual stage intake manifold, while the 175 kW (235 hp) version retains variable valve timing on the inlet side only. Sales of the VZ series failed to match those of the preceding VY in light of rising small car sales, higher fuel prices and growing interest in the whole new replacement, the VE series. Selected models bring advanced active safety features that electronically assist the driver to maintain vehicle control in emergency situations. After meeting for 14 years in rented premises, in the Prince of Wales Hall, Wodonga Council built its first Shire Hall on the corner of High and Elgin Streets in 1890. The first Shire Hall was demolished in 1971. The second building, Wodonga’s new Municipal Offices in Woodland Grove were used for the first time by Wodonga Councillors on 7th August 1957. The Woodland Grove building has since been used for a range of purposes, most recently as a café, but is currently unoccupied. The third purpose-built council chambers were opened in November 1976 with the first council meeting there on 1st December 1976. Westminster Fine China Australia started in the Melbourne suburb of Cheltenham at 7 Arnold Street, in 1954 by Stanley Rogers and Son Ltd. They initially used imported blanks from Japan, which were made to their specifications, and which were then decorated locally. They produced a standard range of shapes for souvenir ware, later expanding into a wide range of tea sets, dinnerware and many other styles of china ware. The Abbey mark, based on Westminster Abbey in London, was used from the start of production until about 1962.Woodland Grove was named in honour of Wodonga Shire’s first president, John Woodland. The building depicted served as the centre of municipal government for approximately 20 years, throughout the 1960s and 1970s. The first page is a memorandum to Mr J H Seymour from the International patent & Trade Marks Office informing Mr Seymour that the Provisional Specification of his invention has been accepted in Victoria, dated 17 Oct 1892. The second page is a copy of a card from John H Seymour, City Foundry, Wattle St. Sandhurst outlining the safety cage, the lives it has saved and orders will receive prompt attention and further information may be had from the above address.
