Emma Keys was born in England in 1842 to parents Charles Keys and Mary Ann, née Black. She married George Henry Smith in 1860, after which they sailed from Liverpool bound for Happy Valley. Emma and George Smith had fourteen children. Mary Jane Rankin, daughter of Ewen Rankin and Head Teacher at Happy Valley School, married widower Edwin Drummond Hitchins in 1918. At the time he was manager of the Bank of New South Wales in Linton. In 1923, following Ed's retirement as bank manager, they bought Allotment 20 at Mannibadar (previously a soldier settler block) and named it 'Lonetree'.Digital image of a woman with white hair, standing with her left hand resting on a farm gate, over which is hanging the branch of a tree. A postcard in a series produced by the Rose Stereograph Company in Victoria, Australia as a souvenir of Marysville.A black and white photograph showing a panoramic view from Wych Cross which was a guesthouse in Marysville. The Wych Cross Private Guesthouse was part of the Wych Cross Private Hotel Co. Ltd of which Mr. Felix Jellicoe was Managing Director at the time. The guesthouse burnt down in a fire on the 14th of November, 1926. This fire started in the kitchen where it was soon extinguished by one of the employees. However, it is believed that sparks from the earlier fire, which were not noticed at the time, ignited the second fire which destroyed the weatherboard guesthouse in 20 minutes. Caroline Murrell, b. 1867 at Happy Valley, was a daughter of Ambrose and Mary Murrell. Prior to her marriage, Caroline Murrell assisted her mother to manage the Victoria Hotel in Linton. Used in Mobile Intensive Care Ambulances (MICA) 1, 2 and 3 during the 1970s and 1980s. These units were effective and reliable. George Harrie (or Henry) Charles Trengrove was born in Ballarat in 1862. He became a teacher and was Head Teacher at Happy Valley school between 1900 and 1909. During this time he was Drum Major for the Linton Brass Band. The photograph shows him in military uniform but it is not known which of the colonial military units he served in.
