The photograph was taken in 1994 shortly after the improvements to the garden and play are at Bulla Primary School had been completed. In the early 1990s extensive work work was done to the outdoor areas of the Bulla Primary School, which included a school garden and modern playground equipment. The photograph shows three pieces of the equipment installed in the playground, namely a slide, a climbing frame and balancing equipment. The improvements to the outdoor area at Bulla Primary School gave the students a wider range of extra-curricular activities. The three people were attending a school camp run attended by students, teachers and parents from Bulla and Mickleham Primary Schools. One of the activities the places the campers visited was a fish hatchery in the Beechworth area. Gail Page with her mother Lee and teacher, Carol Hitchens are standing beside one of the ponds at the hatchery. School camps provide students with many interesting extracurricular activities and wider learning experiences in a more relaxed environment beyond the classroom. The children with their teachers and some parents were attending a school camp in Beechworth and a visit to the trout farm was one of the activities. Students from Bulla and MIckleham Primary Schools attended a camp at Beechworth in 1988 where they undertook a number of different outdoor activities such as busk walking, fishing, visits to the Chinese Cemetery and boomerang throwing. In this photograph the children met with one of the local First Nation's people and were shown the art of boomerang throwing. Children from Bulla and MIckleham Primary schools attend a camp at Beechworth in 1988. While there they experienced a number of varied activities as part of their outdoor education course. The photograph was taken when the students from Bulla and Mickleham Primary Schools combined to attend a camp at Beechworth in 1988. During that time the children were engaged in a number of different outdoor activities as a component of their outdoor education. Recognising some of the native birds of the area was one of their activities where the children experiences the birds actually landing on them.The varied activities that the children engaged in at the school camp helped to give them a better appreciation and understanding of the natural environment. In 1988 the Grade 2 and 3 children from Bulla Primary School attended a camp at Red Rock, where they were engaged in a variety of activities. In this image a teacher is explaining the rules of a game that the children are about to play. In 1988, the senior students at Bulla Primary School, under the supervision of their teacher undertook a community activity to paint a school sign that could be seen from a distance. They collected rocks that were lying across the exposed hillside above the school and arranged them into the word 'BULLA'. They then painted the rocks with white paint. Anyone approaching Bulla township from Sunbury would see the sign across the valley.
