Ash tray made from the burl of a Eucalypt tree by an unknown German Internee in Loveday Camp for Heinz Zienow, a member of the Persian Group of Internees, later transferred to Camp 1 Tatura, and used for the rest of his life. The booklet prepared and printed by the German internees held in Camp 1, Tatura. The reproduction of the booklet was carried out on equipment in the office of the Camp Garrison, and copies of the booklet were made available to those internees within the camp and who were considered sympathetic to the German cause.The booklet tells the story of the internment of German Nationals in Australia from the German point of view. It also lists the names, internment number, dates of birth and capture, and the State where the capture took place. It also illustrate the fact that the Australian Authorities were willing to assist in the production of the booklet through the use of their office equipment.65 page booklet consisting of folded foolscap sheets with hand printed and printed material.

Made by former camp 2 Tatura internee after his release in 1942 to the 8th Employment Co. at Tocumwal. Images forwarded by email by the son of Guidobaldi. Thirteen images of artwork performed by Guidobaldi while in Loveday and later in Camp 1 Tatura. Guidobaldi was a model maker and after the war made models for Film and TV Productions in England. Images were sent to Museum via email and show the reverse sides of the paintings, which were drawn on the sides of cardboard containers.camp 1, loveday camp

This painting is for the Museum. It was a gift to me by an ex prisoner, whom I met when he came to Melbourne with Vic, Nicky and others. His name is Luigi Poggioli and he was a most distinguished gentleman, so distinct and well educated that I still remember him clearly (and I do not have a good memory). Perhaps I remember so well because of his kind words in verse on the painting which read :(Translation) "Ungrateful land with handsome race of Italian blood who with their hard work enriched you". Yes I believe I remember so well because of this verse. Extract from a letter from Mrs Tolaini now living in London. She is the Wife of Vittorio Tolaini who was on the Dunera and wrote of his experiences in "Voyage of an Alien" June 1991.
