The Norman Oliver collection. Norman Oliver was three times Mayor of Bendigo - 1950-51, 1964-65, 1970-71. Two typed pages, the second also has typed notes on the reverse. There are two ink splotches on the front page. The document is titled 'The Mayor Speaks' and dated 9/4/65 in blue ink. The top half of the first page is over-typed and difficult to read. Black and white photocopy of a photo of the Rose of Australia 1907 printed on cream paper. Photo shows the building after it was burnt down in 1907. Two chimneys and some of the building are still standing, the rest is a pile of twisted timber. A number of men and a couple of children are standing in the rubble, two are on the roof and two on a ladder. Printed on white paper under the picture are - Rose of Australia 1907 when it was burnt down. Photocopy of a photo of the Rose of Australia Re Built. It is a brick building with a veranda with iron lace between the veranda poles. There are three decorative edges above the veranda, the first has Rose of, the middle has Australia and the third has Hotel painted on it. On part of the wall underneath is the name A. Thomas. Printed under top photo 'Eaglehawk State School. The total attendance at the Eaglehawk State is 37-, with 180 boys and 190 girls. The staff consists of the head teacher, one male assistant, seven female assistants, and three junior teachers. The head teacher, Mr GP Hibberd, has just been transferred to the Central School Bendigo, and Mr Charles F Tilson is in charge temporarily'. Printed under bottom photo 'Eaglehawk State School.
