Frederick HAYES enlisted in the 2nd AIF on 28.6.1940 Regt No VX41213 age 30 years. He embarked with the 2/24th Bn on 5.2.1941 and disembarked in the Middle East on 23.3.1941. The unit was soon in Tobruk. He was hospitalised on 27.7.1941 with Otitis Media a serious Ear Infection. he was returned to Australia disembarking on 23.5.1942. He was discharged from the Army on 2.5.1943 holding the rank of CPL in the 2/1st SEC Aust Kit Store. The inaugural meeting to form Harcourt Bowling Club was held in May 1955. Cr Ben Bingham donated half an acre of land in Bagshaw st Harcourt and the club acquired a small building from Blight's Quarry to serve as a clubhouse. The first day's play took place on 24th October 1959. New clubrooms were built in 1961 with the official opening of the Club held on Saturday 11th November 1961. The club became affilaited with Bendigo District Bowling Assocaition and, in 1966/67 won the Associated division 3 pennant. ; Depicts a group of men, the core ‘movers and shakers’ of the Harcourt community, in the course of their favourite recreation, Association champions in just the seventh year after formation.. The photograph show legatees posing with the uniform that belonged to Legatee Joynt after an address commemorating Donovan Joynt VC on 24th October 1989. The army uniform was at Legacy House just before it was donated to the Australian War Museum in Canberra. An article published in the Melbourne Legacy Bulletin about the event contained the address given by L/ Holdsworth (01599). Other photos at 01604 show Legatee Holdsworth can be seen reading from the album which was compiled about the life of L/ Joynt VC (Cat.No. 01588). In black and white, this photograph shows bride Aileen Beryl Ervin of McKenzie Creek, via Horsham, in her wedding attire, for her marriage to Leslie John Ellison, of McKenzie Creek via Horsham. This ceremony was officiated by Rev. Francis Fielding, on September 24th 1949, in the Horsham Methodist Church. The bride wore a beautiful gown, with a short and a long veil. This is an original Elector’s right certificate of 1900 for the Warrnambool Electoral District. This entitled the owner to vote at elections held for the Legislative Assembly in the Government of Victoria. The voter had to be male and resident in the electorate( in this case Warrnambool).This certificate was issued to Aden Armstrong an undertaker with a business in Timor Street opposite the Old National Bank which was at the corner of Kepler and Timor Streets. The Registrar who signed the certificate was Richard Geilhofer. The certificate was one of the items in the Henri Worland collection of historical society in 1973 by the Warrnambool City Council via Keith Arnel the Town Clerk. The timeframe of this document is on the cusp of major electoral change in Australia with the Federation of Australian states happening in 1901 and the granting of the vote for Australian women in the various states over the next decade.This item would have been a common item at the time as all those entitled to vote had to present same. It has local significance with Aden Armstrong being in business in Warrnambool for a number of years.Cream coloured paper with black text. Victorian coat of Arms at centre top of document. On 4 April 1935 the ship was launched by Elizabeth, Duchess of York, one of the daughters of the Earl of Strathmore, soon to become queen. In 1938 the ship brought the Australian cricket team, including Don Bradman, to England for the 1938 Ashes series On 31 March 1940, the vessel was requisitioned by the Ministry of War Transport, and served as a troop ship, with no major incidents in that role during the rest of the Second World War. Programme of a Legacy Demonstration at the Melbourne Town Hall in October 1947. Throughout the year Melbourne Legacy provided classes for Junior Legatees such as dancing, gymnastics and eurythmics, the Demonstration was an annual event to showcase their skills. Melbourne Legacy conducted Annual Demonstrations / Parades from 1928 through to 1979, usually held at Melbourne Town Hall or Olympic Pool Stadium. The beautiful costumes were made by members of the Junior Legacy Mothers' Club and the Melbourne Legacy Wives' Association. Henry Sebire returned to Guernsey on the "Caledonian" in 1888. He came back to Australia via sailing ship to Jersey and then to the coast of France. Travelled by train to Paris and Marseilles, and left for Australia on "Oceania". Arrived in Melbourne in December 1888. The "Oceania" was built in France in 1884 - 4162 tons, barque rigged, 415 feet long, 585 HP. Sank in the English Channel on 24th September 1916. On loan from Alvan Sebire - Great Grandson of Henry and Martha Sebire.
