A letter to the President of Melbourne Legacy from a representative of a sub-committee. The pencil mark on top of first page could imply it came from Legatee Stan Savige. Date is not known, the first section refers to a resolution of the Board of Management in 1930. That resolution was 'That members of the Club make every effort to influence trade towards Returned Soldiers in business, particularly fellow members, and accept every opportunity at this juncture to carry this into effect.' The rest of the report is a discussion on the impact of this resolution and how it can be made effective in the working of the Legacy spirit. The Teenager, His Family and His Peers was a paper presented to the 1968 Federal Conference of the Legacy Clubs of Australia by Legatee John Hall of Melbourne Legacy (held in Ballarat from 7th to 10th November 1968). By resolution of the Conference it was printed by Legacy Co-ordinating Council for distribution upon their request to Legacy Clubs. It was stored with another paper presented at the 1968 Conference 'The Fundamentals of Legacy' which had the notation H51 in blue pen to show that it was part of the archive project that was trying to capture the history of Legacy. A speech by Legatee Dono Joynt at a Legacy luncheon on 28 October 1952. His talk mentions that 'Harelands' the Club's fourth residence about to be opened. The Club was in need of funds for the next year. He says; 'I am convinced that this Club can FACE anything, and DO ANYTHING and OVERCOME anything, if the members of the Club are STRONG enough in their desire for whatever it is they want to achieve.' which is the theme of his speech. An unattributed draft report dated 19/04/1972 (to be read in conjunction with Cat. No. 01670) which updates Cat.No. 01672. The report gives details of the situation at that date and projected changes to the functions of the residences, occupancy rates, costs and likely trends in accommodation needs. It explores at length auxiliary and alternate accommodation such as the Salvation Army, YMCA, YWCA and church hostels, before recommending that when the number of residents over the age of 14 falls below 34 in two consecutive years Blamey House be disposed of or developed for other needs, Stanhope is converted to co-ed accommodation for over 14s, and Harelands is used as co-ed accommodation for the under 14s. A letter dated 10th April 1987 from Legacy President B.R. Wilson to Mr Ross Oakley Chaiman of the Victorian Football League VFL (now AFL) inviting him to speak at Legacy's Tuesday Luncheon. Legatees met regularly and had guest speakers to entertain and inform on different subjects at their Tuesday Luncheons. This document was from a file of information about guest speakers (see also 00812-00822 and 00829-00837). The Programme Committee was responsible for organising the speakers. A record that the speakers were from very different walks of life and the subjects were varied. This was an invitation indicating the diversity of guest speakers. The eighth meeting of the committee held on 6 April 1959 to decide upon publishing details. From the minutes it is clear that Longmans had been selected as the publisher with 3000 copies to be printed in the first run, but only 1000 copies would be bound. The retail price was fixed at 25/-. These items have no known provenance and no information has been found on the Barnards on the printing blocks, delivery paper and stamps. The stamp for ‘W.I.O. Barnard’ was sent to an address in Camberwell so it is presumed that the Barnard family members were in Melbourne and not in the Warrnambool district.The only interest in these items is in the printing blocks and stamps. They are good examples of the type of printing used in the early 20th century and the type of stamp used by individuals for letterheads, visiting cards, personal items etc. There are 5 objects in this collection:- 1.
