This photograph is part of the Caulfield Historical Album 1972. This album was created in approximately 1972 as part of a project by the Caulfield Historical Society to assist in identifying buildings worthy of preservation. The album is related to a Survey the Caulfield Historical Society developed in collaboration with the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) and Caulfield City Council to identify historic buildings within the City of Caulfield that warranted the protection of a National Trust Classification. Principal photographer thought to be Trevor Hart, member of Caulfield Historical Society. Most photographs were taken between 1966-1972 with a small number of photographs being older and from unknown sources. All photographs are black and white except where stated, with 386 photographs over 198 pages. From Victorian Heritage Database citation for HO59 Glenmoore, 1 St Georges Road Elsternwick https://vhd.heritagecouncil.vic.gov.au/places/35202 as at 30/10/2020 "Glenmoore" is locally significant as a surviving mid nineteenth century villa residence in the then fashionable bi-chromatic brick form. It is also important as the home of Hugh Moore who built several shops in nearby Glen Huntly Road and which remain as important contributors to the architectural character of the Elsternwick Shopping Centre.Victorian Heritage Database citation HO59 Glenmoore, 1 St Georges Road Elsternwick https://vhd.heritagecouncil.vic.gov.au/places/35202 An imposing two storeyed villa in bichrome brick with two storeyed timber posted verandah, coupled with cast iron lace frieze, spandrels and central tympanum enrichment. The hipped roof is in slate and has a prominent crean1 brick chimney stack forming part of the facade. Openings are flat arched although the entrance is round arched with a fan light. The south elevation has bayed windows. Two storeyed hip roofed additions are sympathetic and attached on the north side and at the rear. Inside, the staircase and stained glasswork with initials "HM" and family coat of arms are important surviving elements. INTEGRITY: Good, timber outbuildings of an early date, mature and spacious front garden includes early palm trees. Alterations include reconstruction of facade verandah including tiled pavement and front door on east side. Interior has a high level of integrity. The booklet details important aspects of Caulfield’s history including council procedures, the Caulfield Road District Proclamation, the first election and a summary of 100 years of local government with a description of the present Caulfield in 1957. The booklet also includes several pictures of various Caulfield landmarks and people including one of Caulfield City Councillors (11 men and 1 woman). Most photographs were taken between 1966-1972 with a small number of photographs being older and from unknown sources. All photographs are black and white except where stated, with 386 photographs over 198 pages. From: Glen Eira Heritage Management Plan (1996) by Andrew Ward and Associates Moore's Buildings", were built in 1891 and comprising 5 shops. In 1888, Hugh Moore, a gentleman, subdivided his land in Glen Huntly Road, north side between Selwyn Street and St Georges Road into 27 lots, with a right of way separating them from his property "Glenmoore". The subdivision was known as the "Glenmoore Estate". Purchases of land included local builders Corkill, French and Pugh. Moore retained five lots and W.W. Jamieson bought lots 11 to 14. "Moore' s Buildings are locally important for their association with the early Elsternwick land owner, Hugh Moore, whose home, "Glenmoore", at 1 St.Georges Road (qv) survives. The newsletter covers topics such as Advertising for Christmas, Caulfield Council elections, shop trading hours, Caulfield High School’s Dutch auction and membership numbers. Because of the original September issue of the newsletter having gone missing in transit and the need for a replacement newsletter, a number of new items and advertising have been omitted for which an apology is offered. 2/A small round metal medallion inscribed with the words ‘Elsternwick Shoppers’ League member’ on one side with a small hole punched through at the top. This file contains one item about the Caulfield RSL’s newsletter: 1/Five issues (nos. 26, 33, 35, 42, and 44) of Furfs, the official newsletter of the Caulfield RSL, dated 12/2000, 05/2004, 10/2005, 12/2007, and 11/2009 respectively. The issues vary in size (numbering 12, 6, 1, 8, and 8 pages, respectively) and consequently, in terms of breadth of content. Most, however, report on the Club’s recent activities, list the current administrative staff, eulogise recently deceased members, and contain advertisements for goods and services of interest to members. This file contains five items of newspaper articles pertaining to the Caulfield RSL: 1/A pamphlet titled ‘A Chance to Honour – The Men Who Saved Australia’, date and parent organisation unspecified, advertising a presentation ceremony and film screening of Chris Masters’ documentary The Men Who Saved Australia to take place on 21/10/2005, to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of WWII. Included are two sepia photographs of the 39th Victorian Battalion – the first of them travelling up the Kokoda Track and the second of them parading after being relieved by the 7th Division – and one colour photograph of Michael Danby MHR, Federal Member for Melbourne Ports, attending the 2005 Anzac Day service in Port Melbourne. 2/A clipping from the Caulfield/Glen Eira Leader (Titled ‘Conflict of war continues’, dated 09/11/2010, and authored by Jenny Ling) advertising the year’s Remembrance Day service to be held by the Caulfield RSL on 07/11/2010/ Special tribute is to be paid to service persons killed in Afghanistan. (There exists a discrepancy between the date offered for the article, which is written on the page to which the clipping is attached, rather than the clipping itself, and the date offered for the event, which is written in the clipping itself. The event is described as taking place before the publication of the publication of the article advertising it. Presumably, the date offered for the article, written on the page to which the clipping is attached, is erroneous). 3/A clipping from the Caulfield Leader (titled ‘Our True Anzac Spirit’, dated 19/04/2011, and authored by Jenny Ling) noting that the New Zealand national anthem is to be played alongside Advance Australia Fair at all RSLs across Victoria on Anzac Day following lobbying by the Caulfield branch. Included is a colour photograph of New Zealand sub-branch vice-president Danny Allen and president Sam Smith standing in front of the New Zealand flag. 4/A clipping from the Caulfield Leader (titled ‘Veteran’s Vivid Memory’, dated 08/11/2011, and authored by Jenny Ling, consisting of a short biography of WWII veteran Eric Sparks. The Ballarat Catholic Young Men's Society was established on 01 August 1892. This is the organisation's first minute book. Rev. Dr Delaney advocated for the formation of the Ballarat Catholic Young Men's Society. Curtin and Scullin became members of this organisation, and it is where they learnt to debate. William White was one of the founders of the Hibernian Society. 09 August 1893 - Richard Sutton provided a piano for recital by Mr Bailey. Brown hard covered minute book with red spine. It is the first book of the Ballarat Catholic Young Men's Society. The minutes are handwritten in ink. VIOSH has a global reputation for its innovative approach within the field of OHS management. VIOSH had its first intake of students in 1979. At that time the Institution was known as the Ballarat College of Advanced Education. In 1990 it became known as Ballarat University College, then in 1994 as University of Ballarat. It was 2014 that it became Federation University. VIOSH Australia students are safety managers, senior advisors and experienced OHS professionals. They come from all over Australia and industry. Students are taught active research and enquiry; rather than textbook learning and a one-size fits all approach. VIOSH accepts people into the Graduate Diploma of Occupational Hazard Management who have no undergraduate degree - on the basis of extensive work experience and knowledge.
