3293.1 - Grey folder, with a two prong clip, marked ""Rosters both sides, containing a set of 29 sheets, typed on foolscap paper, giving the Weekdays, Saturday and Sunday tables or runs for the SEC Ballarat trams on the SEC Ballarat Tramway system until the period before closure. Gives details of 38 tables or runs, numbered from 1 Run to 38 Run. Each sheet headed "Weekday", three runs per sheet. Saturdays - 1 to 34, Sunday - 1 to 10. Each sheet has in the top right hand corner LJD/3/70. Time table operated until the commencement of closure of the system. All sheets imaged and are: Monday to Friday Runs 1- 3 4-6 7-9 10-12 13-15 16-18 19-21 22-24 25-28 29-30 31-33 34-36 37 and 38 Saturday Runs 1- 3 4-6 7-9 10-12 13-15 16-18 19-21 22-24 25-28 29-30 31-33 34 Sunday Runs 1- 3 4-6 7-9 10 Each run details where the driver/conductor would sign on, time, the trips, meal breaks, finish time and the total time of the shift. White cardboard mount, 35mm slide, from the Association of Railway Enthusiast's film strip titled "Provincial Tramway Film Strip" of a Bendigo Trust Birney tram, December 1972 at Charing Cross, outbound to the mine. Tram painted in the Bendigo Trust colour scheme and is fitted with a Bendigo Television BCV roof advertisement. "For Television BCV Channel 8 & 11" and underneath the roof advertisement a route sign "Gold Mine - Joss House". Photo has the Ezywalkin store in the background, Fountain Plaza in the foreground. The film strip notes (Reg. In Arthur's letter - on file - Made between 1960 and August 1971. Synopsis: based on time. Between 1960 and 1968 0:00 Trams Ahead sign before the Victoria St terminus with 20 at terminus 0.14 - No. 20 leaving Victoria St terminus and being followed along Victoria St by car and then passengers jointing the tram at a tram stop. 00.40 - No. 12 (c1960) in bound along Lydiard St North and arriving in the Gregory St loop. 00.56 - No. 12 and 14 crossing at Gregory St. 01.20 - No. 33 and a bogie car crossing at depot loop. 01.31 - No. 18 travelling along Wendouree Parade with the Lake in the background. 01.42 - No 41 at depot junction and running into the depot No. 2 road with a short sequence of a tramway signal. 02.17 - SEC Sign at the depot gate, shot of 41 in No. 2 road, with the lights other way around, Caution beware of trams sign and a red signal. 02.31- Timetable sign at Gardens Loop 02.36 - No. 30 arriving at Loop and view of a signal with no lights showing. 02.48 - Destination roll being changed through a number of destinations. 03.26 - No. 20 arriving at Carlton St loop with the Olympic monument in the background and the red signal light going out. 03.31 - a lady standing at the front of No. 20, with an ice cream in hand, and No. 17 arriving at the Carlton St loop with a short sped up sequence and No. 20 departing from the loop, followed by No. 17 leaving the loop, heading into the city. 03.41 - No. 13 inbound from Sebastopol crossing Albert St and heading into the city. 04.12 - view of signal and contactor, the light going green and the tram passing underneath. 04.24 - No. 12 at the Sebastopol terminus and departing. 04.51 - No. 12 crossing Albert St Sebastopol. 05.16 - Following No. 12 along Albert St, with Borough Offices in background initially. 05.28 - No. 12 arriving at the Grey St loop with No. 14 arriving at the loop from the city and both trams departing. Yields information about tram services and how timetables were printed using a clock face for use in Ballarat. Demonstrates timetable making.Thirty two page, white paper, saddle stapled booklet, titled "Electricity Supply Department - Ballarat Tramways - Official Time Table August 1937", Gives notes on the through routing of the tram service, how the clock style format works and that it operates from the Tramway Centre. Also details when extra services are run and times as specific points along the route. Page 29 detail the fares and charges, page 30 - luggage, page 28 gives travel information and rear cover advertises electricity usage. Demonstrates aspects of the Ballarat Tramways management system of Motorman's' rosters interfacing during the last full period of operation of the tramway. Shows the services and how the various run or crew tables were arranged in relation to the overall timetable. Photo copy on heat sensitive paper of a handwritten sheet on graph paper for the arrangement of the Weekdays, Saturday and Sunday Rosters on the various Ballarat routes. Gives the various run numbers, sign on location, trip take times, notes on what to do with trams, sign off times, interface with other runs. Shows the full or basic 20 min service during the day and 30 mins at night. Show how the various run or crew tables were arranged to provide the service overall. Wal Jack had an extensive range of correspondents throughout Australia and the world who often provided him with detailed drawings and notes on various tramway systems. This set of notes on the Christchurch tramway system, provides details of the tram system prior to being taken over by the City and afterwards. Plan dated 30-6-1947. The hand written sheets provide details of the routes and the rolling stock. Based on the handwriting, prepared by Wal Jack himself. Painted for Mrs Ruby Young whose family owned the hotel at one time - (since burnt down) The hotel was built around 1857 near "Shaw Crossing" when Cowton and Bland selected the site because the bullockies watered and rested their stock on route Belfast and Portland. The FJ Holden is iconic in Australian motoring history. It was made in Australia by Holden from 1953 to 1956. During the 1950s, Holden dominated the Australian car market and by 1958 sales accounted for over 40 per cent of total car sales in Australia. The Redex Reliability Trial 1953 -The first Redex round-Australia reliability trial covered of 6,500 miles (10,500 km), and had a first prize of £1,000. It attracted both amateur and professional drivers in a variety of cars. The route passed through Brisbane, Rockhampton, Townsville, Darwin, Alice Springs, Adelaide and Melbourne before returning to Sydney and attracted much public interest. At the time the idea of driving huge distances around the country in ordinary cars was novel and the logistics were challenging. In many parts of the country there simply wasn’t adequate accommodation or suitably located refuelling stops. The Shell Company facilitated the race by placing petrol dumps along the 5000 km route between Townsville and Adelaide. The race began at the Sydney Showground on 30 August when 192 cars left at three-minute intervals. Of the twenty top finalists, two thirds were sponsored. Ken Tubman and John Marshall won the trial in a Peugeot 203. A black & white photo taken from near 688 Whitehorse Road. The rock and attached plaque to Caroline Chisholm stand in front of the Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS) Essendon Centre. It was unveiled at the opening of the Centre on the 30 August 1967.The plaque has a deep silver colour background, light silver colour writing with gold coloured edging.Caroline Chisholm visited the goldfields of Victoria in 1854 and was horrified by the conditions en-route. The Memorial plaque to Caroline Chisholm, in front of the RDNS Essendon Centre which is situated on Crown Land, is in recognition for her work in establishing, with Government assistance, shelter sheds about a days walk apart, to enable the prospectors and their families heading for the goldfields shelter on their way. Caroline Chisholm, a Philanthropist, began her work in Madras in 1834 founding a Female School of Industry for the daughters of European soldiers. They were taught to read, write, cook, keep house and were given instructions in nursing. After coming to Sydney in 1838, she set up accommodation for poor young unemployed migrant women and families. This work was extended when she arranged employment for assisted immigrant women and families into the countryside, many times travelling with groups of young women to check their employment conditions. In seven years she placed 11,000 people in homes and employment. On her return to England she fought for, and won, free passage to Australia for wives and children of former convicts, and for children left behind in England by circumstances, when the family migrated. She established the Family Colonisation Loan Society in 1849, which set up a saving scheme for emigrants, and later loaned them half of their passage to Australia. The Society's Agents found them employment on arrival, and the loan was paid back within two years by a humane payment scheme. At first they used emigrant ships, but then the Society provided ships with much improved conditions, and this led to the upgrading of the passenger Act.. The Chisholm's lived in Kyneton for several years, returning to Sydney for health reasons, before going back to England where Caroline died, aged 68 years, on the 25th of March 1877.Black and white photograph of the Memorial plaque to Caroline Chisholm.
