Photo shows the installation of new special work or junction at High St and Brighton Road at Carlisle St St Kilda 17/3/1974. The work was part of the major road widening project of High Street between St Kilda Junction and Carlisle St with the trams relocated into their own reservation. The track was raised 18 inches or about 450mm above the previous road level. Document prepared to provide the concepts for separation of traffic along St Kilda Road and Brighton Road using safety bars, and reserved sections of roadway between Princes Bridge and Glen Huntly Road. Dated May 1979. Has an introduction, and notes the widening of St Kilda Road south of Cochrane St and its impact. Has colour photo of Z89 in Nicholson St where the Safety bars had been installed to separate traffic, installation of Safety Zones, photos of Gothenburg, Amsterdam, and Hanover showing traffic separation, graphs showing tram passenger movement in the am peak and road usage. Looks extensively at the Domain Interchange at Park and Domain Road and the suggested layout - which was implemented in Nov. 1986. Includes a photo of a very long line of trams northbound at this intersection which has undergone many changes location, to become during 2025 the entry to Anzac station. Preprinted ticket, good for one journey during Feb. 1922 only - ticket number 048 on left hand side and 059 and 060 on right hand side. Good for Sections 1 to 4, between St Kilda and Park St. Sheet has been perforated vertically and horizontally. Would appear that these were pre-purchased, torn off horizontally by the passenger, handed to the conductor who would tear it in half (vertically) and return one half to the passenger. Trams tramways Victorian Railways VR St Kilda Brighton Rules ...Rule Book - 156 pages, five sewn sections within a green coloured Rexene heavy card with glued endpapers with the title "Victorian Railways Instructions re Working of the St Kilda and Brighton Electric Street Railway" and "1927" in gold block. Dated 1 June 1926. Has a table of contents and index - gives definitions - "trams" vs "street railways", general instructions, hand signs, working of cars, working of traffic over single and double line, staff and ticket systems, air brakes, permanent way, overhead, fares, appeals of employees against penalty and electric shock. Note the spelling of the word "employe" with an accent over the e - an acceptable practice in Victoria at the time - a US based spelling. Book scanned into 4 four parts at Hi resolution and 3 parts - low resolution. 2nd copy added 29/4/2019 from donation of Barry Brooks ex the Bob Prentice Collection.
