Melbourne Tramway & Omnibus Co. Bell Punch No. D406. A heavy nickel or chrome plated steel ticket or fare strip canceling / registering mechanism used on Melbourne cable trams. When a fare was sold, the bell would ring advising the passenger that their fare have registered. "An ingenious device resembling in principle the ticket punch of a railway porter. It is carried by the conductor who wears pinned to his coat a 'trip-slip'. He punches this once for every fare received; the action is simultaneously registered on a dial inside the punch and bell rings to appraise the passenger of the fact. The punch is provided with a patent lock, the secret of which is known only at headquarters and effective system of check is thus secured." Yields information about the style and printing of parcel check tickets used in Ballarat and Bendigo tramways and how they were presented.Block of 10 No. 4d Parcel check tickets. Prepared as a block of 10 two part printed tickets, using red ink on 60 gsm reddish paper with the top half part having a part gummed back, stapled with a single staple at the top onto an off white light weight cardboard sheet. The ticket butt has the form number "TYE 3-18". The top portion was to be affixed to the parcel to be carried. It has the name of the organisations (SECV), "Parcel Check 4d", conditions of carriage and ticket number, suffixed with the letter D. The lower portion was retained by the sender, was to be initialled by the conductor, "Parcel Check 4d", conditions of use, ticket number and a space where to be initialled by the conductor. Circular C 7055, dated 31/5/1951 details the introduction of Ultimate ticket machines by the MMTB, commencing 4 June and their use at some tram safety zones and bus stops in the City area. Details their use, day codes, checking of the tickets by tram conductors, and fares and how many tickets are issued for each fare - for example for a 2d fare, two 1d tickets would be issued. Has example tickets for 7 different fares using 5 different tickets or combinations. Circular C 7150, dated 10/10/1951 advising changes to the tickets issued resulting from an increased fare charge that commenced on 21/10. Shows a 9d ticket instead of a 5d and notes that the 9d is temporary. Yields information about the introduction of the Ultimate Ticket Machine to the MMTB.Set of two documents or notices duplicated with ticket samples glued on the sheet at the base. Gives an understanding of the variety of special purpose tickets issued by the Electric Supply Company for use on the Provincial Tramways of Victoria.The Newspaper Package Ticket is issued by the Electricity Supply Department of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria for use on the Provincial Tramways. The 3d Parcel Check, and 4d Parcel Ticket, issued by the same body, allow for the carriage of packages not exceeding 28lb, from their point of being handed to the conductor, to the depot. The tickets detail the requirements of use, and a statement protecting the commission from liability. the tickets are all printed in red ink on a cream/ beige paper.Some of the tickets are stamped with the word Cancelled. Some of the tickets are printed with an original number. 2944.1 - A4 size sheet of white paper, printed up as a BTPS (BTM) conductor's Revenue Journal for Adults fares as $1.50c, Children $0.80 and all day cards $3.00. Standard BTPS Revenue Journal format that was altered as necessary for the various fares. Known as form T2. Form titled for the "Ballarat Tramways" and has been used on Sunday 29/12/1991 by Andrew Mitchell. Gives the opening and closing numbers, total number issued, pay in values and total cash. Signed by A. Mitchell. 2944.2 - ditto, completed by Austin Brehaut on 15/1/1991, when fares were Adult $1, children 50c and All Day cards - $2.00. 2944.3 - ditto on green paper, completed by P. Mong 9/3/1997, when fares were $1.50 for Adults, 80c for Children and $3.00 for All Day cards. Specially printed for the 1997 Begonia Festival with addition of 50c and 30c check or ticket values. 2944.4 - A5 version dated 6/10/ 1996, completed by Clayton Giles.
