Michael Gabriel Giudice (1882-8/12/1947) was the son of Baptista and Rosa (nee Lang). In 1907 he married Beatrice Annie Harvey. Michael is listed as an agent and in 1931 is living at 451 Hargreaves St., Bendigo with his wife Beatrice.Black and white photograph mounted on rectangular grey board. House, brick with pale brick quions at corners and around windows, corrugated iron roof, verandah with very ornate cast iron balustrade and frieze, decorative gable with circular vent, stone steps to verandah. One chimney, house name above verandah, fence with stone base and pickets above with picket gate. Weather board and glass addition back right of house. On back of photo ' M. G. "ARARAT WAR MEMORIAL.- Remarkable simplicity and beauty are combined in the Ararat war memorial, which will be unveiled by Senator H.E. Elliott to-morrow. The monument is a simple rectangular stone mass, 12ft in length, 6ft in width, and 18ft m height, standing on a bluestone platform of three steps in the centre of a formal garden Surrounding the memorial is a bronze frieze, conceived from the classic frieze of the Parthenon in Athens depicting incidents in Australian engagements overseas. The frieze took the sculptor (Mr Wallace Anderson) two years to complete. The memorial was designed and supervised by Mr A.S. Hall. Photographs of the memorial are included in the collection at the architectural exhibition it the Town Hall." TOURELLO POST OFFICE WAS OPENED ON 1ST MAY 1868 AND WAS MOVED TO TOURELLO RAILWAY STATION. THIS WAS 3 KM FROM THE ORIGINAL SITE. ON 8TH OF AUGUST1887 THE ORIGINAL TOURELLO POST OFFICE WAS RE-OPENED AND THE BARREL NUMERAL CANCEL 620WAS RETURNED THERE. ON THE SAME DAY A NEW BARREL NUMERAL CANCEL 1587 WAS ALLOCATED TO TOURELLO RAILWAY STATION. THIS CANCEL IS RATED AS VERY RARE. TOURELLO RAILWAY STATIN POST OFFICE CLOSED ON 6TH JUNE 1950. Small rock/stone from Hellfire Pass Kanchanaburi, Thailand. (appears sedimentary rock) Cream coloured.No inscriptions on the Rock.. A typed note with the rock reads-: Rock from Hellfire Pass, Kanchanaburi,Thailand, manyAustralian and Allied soldiers died here in WWII working continuously around the clock under forced labour on the "death railway" to cut a passage through the solid rock in horrendous conditions and receiving little or no rations from their Japanese captors. Obtained by Mr M Evans in November 2002 whilst visiting the site,and presented to the Dandenong RSL Club. -

The lake surrounds Bled Island (Blejski otok). The island has several buildings, the main one being the pilgrimage church dedicated to the Assumption of Mary (Cerkev Marijinega vnebovzetja), built in its current form near the end of the 17th century, and decorated with remains of Gothic frescos from around 1470 in the presbyterium and rich Baroque equipment. The church has a 52 m (171 ft) tower and there is a Baroque stairway dating from 1655 with 99 stone steps leading up to the building. The church is frequently visited and weddings are held there regularly. Traditionally it is considered good luck for the groom to carry his bride up the steps on the day of their wedding before ringing the bell and making a wish inside the church. The traditional transportation to Bled Island is a wooden boat known as a pletna. The word pletna is a borrowing from Bavarian German Plätten 'flat-bottomed boat'. Some sources claim the pletna was used in Lake Bled as early as 1150 AD, but most historians date the first boats to 1590 AD. Similar in shape to Italian gondolas, a pletna seats 20 passengers. Modern boats are still made by hand and are recognizable by their colorful awnings. Pletna oarsman employ the stehrudder technique to propel and navigate boats across the lake using two oars. The role of the oarsman dates back to 1740, when Empress Maria Theresa granted 22 local families exclusive rights to ferry religious pilgrims across Lake Bled to worship on Bled Island. The profession is still restricted.
