A very high achiever John was Dux of College 1919 School Captain 1920 Captain of Cricket 1920, Captain of Tennis 1918 – 1920 Captain of Athletics and Football 1919 – 1920 Stroke, Rowing Firsts, 1919-1920. He maintained a long association with the school through participation in the Old Collegians Association. The match box may have been an Old Collegian's memento. John married Elvie (Price) Coltman. Elvie entered Clarendon Ladies College 1919, her childhood home ‘Dumbarton’ 1425 Sturt Street was purchased by the school and is part of the Girls Boarding House. Thirteen books donated by Mrs Paterson to the Weatherly Library at Ballarat College in 1946. Books include hand-written signatures of Mollie Paterson and William Paterson. This may identify the books as having been donated by the wife of old collegian William Paterson who attended Ballarat College 1917 - 1825. Returned to College by its owner Roy Kyle in 1994. Roy was the the oldest 'Old Collegian and youngest surviving Gallipoli veteran. Roy passed away 9th October 1996. The College Cup was awarded to the competitor who won all three 120, 250 and 440 yard races. Coin purse possibly the property of Marion Boyd Wanliss (1896 - 1984), daughter of old collegian Newton Wanliss or Newton's second wife, Margaret Hannah Bannister. . Marion Wanliss attended the University of Melbourne (MB BS 1920; MD 1929); after research into cancer as a postgraduate in Vienna, she practised as a physician at the Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital. Twenty-five books donated by old collegian Francis Tweedie and possibly his sister Miss E M Tweedie. Francis Tweedie entered Ballarat College in 1889. He was the son of Mrs Tweedie 60 Doveton St, and attended with his brother Alec. The school holds no record of Miss E M Tweedie's attendance. Henry Youle Hind (10/11/1894 - 15/05/1979), son of Henry Dalzell Hind and Alice Louise nee Evans, Victoria Ave, Ballarat. He entered the school in 1910 as a 16yo (peer year 1912). The Senior Cup was a prestigious award for the winning athlete at the Ballarat College annual sports program. From 1884 College Cups were donated by the Old Collegians Association for the outstanding athlete amongst ‘present boys’ and ‘past boys’. It is obvious from written records Two cups were awarded to students – a Junior Cup and a Senior Cup. One cup was awarded to the outstanding Old Collegian athlete each year. This particular trophy was returned to the school and used as a House competition Cup in the Senior Boys Boarding House during the 1980s. After 1980 the trophy was removed from the Boarding House by persons unknown but returned during the 1990s. After repair in 2003 the Senior Boys Boarding House used it as a perpetual Trophy until 2005. The Hind family contacted the school and requested a photograph of the trophy in 2005. Large, silver, double-handled trophy; ornate engraving and fluting on silver stem, handles and cup; light wooden stand with blank plaque attached; small engraved plaque on stand also.
