Original Vicarage 30 Seaby Street c1863. Used by the Anglican Church until 1923 when it was sold. This house is one of the oldest in Stawell. It was built in 1863 as the residence of the Church of England Vicar. Separate to the original Vicarage the Christ Church of England was built on the hill opposite in the same year. Many couples were married in the Drawing Room of the vicarage as was the custom at the time. In 1872, 9 years later a new church called Holy Trinity Church of England was built in Main St. Stawell to replace Christ Church which had become too small and too far from the main population. The Vicarage remained until 1922 when the house next door to Holy Trinity Church was purchased as the new Vicar's residence. Black and white photograph of a brick home with cement render. Post Office lane ran from Main Street to Reid Street, and much of it is now the car park for the IGA Supermarket. The Main Street end between the supermarket and the post office is closed to all but pedestrian traffic, and is now called Gollings Square. The photograph is from the album of Ivy Child and shows the homestead of her parents Ted and Ethel Child. Ivy May Child (1910 – 1989) was the daughter of Arthur Edward (Ted) Child (1878 – 1964) and Ethel May Madden (1888 – 1970). Ted Child was the son of Matthew Francis Child (1839 – 1933) and Martha Jeeves (1857 – 1926). He was the grandson of one of the early pioneers Francis Child. Ivy grew up on the family property on Childs Road and took many photographs. Most of these are glued into her photo album. The album covered the years from c1927 – 1932. Ivy married Henry William Burgess (1906 – 1968) in 1944. The photographs remain in their original state in the album with individual copies made. William Valentine Hill (1854-1940) journalist, was the owner of 'Eignbrook',10 Pembroke Street from 1904. His wife was Annie Boak (1865-1943); they were married in 1885. William Hill (Bill) Dempsey was his grandson. His mother Laura Constance Hill married Herbert T Dempsey in 1925.Original sepia photograph of the street view of a weatherboard in the Queen Anne style with a steep pitched iron roof; house is fronted by a picket fence. Springvale State School, No. 1544, opened in May 1875 and closed in 1906. Land for the school was donated by the O'Meara family. The Bennett Bros Garage operated in Linton from the 1930s-1950s. The building is at 79A Sussex Street. Next to the garage building can be seen the building at 81 Sussex Street. The garage was established in the 1930s by Mr Gamble. Other proprietors were Perc Kimberley 1943-46, Henderson 1946, Neil Rogers. K. & B. The Baptist Chapel was first opened in March 1868 in Lerderderg Street, Bacchus Marsh, next to State School No. 28. The plans were prepared by James G. Pippett and the building was constructed by bricklayer J.F.Taylor and carpenter W. Nelson. When fire threatened its destruction in 1871, the townspeople assisted in saving the building by tearing off the roof and removing windows and flooring. Subsequently it was found that a solid silver Communion Service was missing as well as the contents of the Poor Box. The Chapel was renovated and used until 1898 when the building was moved to Main Street, next to the Post Office. Two rooms were added at the front when the building was rebuilt. The gable above the front entrance and the side of the building under the guttering are ornamented with rows of bricks laid horizontally. A round window sits in the centre of the gable. The central door and the front and side sash windows are topped by semi-circular brick arches. The ornamentation is continued with contrasting bricks down the corners of the building. Englishman John Robertson was a roofing contractor and importer of slate. He founded the Daniel Robertson company in 1835 after arriving in Australia on a ship that carried a large quantity of slate as ballast. This slate was soon seen on the roofs of important Melbourne buildings. In 1910 the company began producing concrete roof tiles in South Melbourne, and in 1928 they converted the Tunstall Brickworks to produce terracotta tiles. In 1967 Daniel Robertson's produced a unique rustic range of bricks that were such a success that the roof tiles were phased out in 1969. In 2013 Daniel Robertson Australia Pty Ltd closed. This railway station building was erected in 1887 and closed in 1990. Now a new chapter begins with a newly restored station building amd platform that re-opened in October 2010 to be used by the Wycheproof Community.The Wycheproof Railway station constructed by Hossack & Brown in 1887 is Heritage listed and is on the Government Buildings Register. This photo is one of only a few available of the early days of the Station.The complex is historically significant at a State level AHC A.4. The Railway station contains significant detailing such as in the turned timber posts and overall composition. This early photo of Wycheproof railway station, shows a construction of timber with corrugated iron clad roof,in c.1904. The Kraft Walker Cheese Co Pty Ltd entered into an agreement with Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory Company in 1935 whereby the Kraft company leased premises from WCB. This arrangement remained in place until the 1990s. WCB took over the Garvoc factory in the 1920s.
