Nunawading Council spent $62,000 in the campaign against Metrail's now abandoned plan for railyards in the municipality. Ron O'Neill, the strategic planner revealed details of costs in a report to council committee. Payments went to consultants, solicitors. If the railyard had been built there would have been a loss of $77,000 in lost rates alone. The social and economic impact would have been significant.
