Photograph - Black and white - MMTB Buses
Set of three Black and White photos of unknown date and photographer: 1 - Photo shows MMTB AEC Mk III bus, on a Footscray route late 1970's doing the U-turn at the intersection of Queen and Flinders Street Melbourne. These bus chassis were built by AEC in the UK between 1951 and 1953 and bodied by Commonwealth Engineering (Comeng). This particular bus was tendered for sale in July 1980. 2 - Three MMTB Mk 4 buses stored at Clifton Hill depot prior to their sale Numbers 618, 604 and 607. All showing Clifton Hill. 618 has an advert for Bosch. The chassis for these buses were built in 1956 with the bodies by Lawton Pty Ltd of Adelaide. Buses 604 and 607 were offered for sale during July 1980. 3 - three Mk III buses, numbers 583, 584 and one other at a depot during the early 1980's which had been converted to ambulances for use during state disasters. Based on the reference 3rd reference document, there were four buses converted - 581 to 584 and were sold during 1980. Reproduction slide of a coloured postcard showing a cable tram in Smith St Collingwood, south of Johnston St. Has a Clifton Hill bound cable tram in view. The conductor with trip slips appears to be walking forward to check for cable trams in Johnston St as required by the rules. Passengers are alighting from the tram. Shops are E Wardrop, W Luge, Booth Chemist and Dentist, and in the far distance is a Moran and Cato store. Many of the shop awnings have been lowered. Set of 19 MMTB paper tram tickets of the 1950s. All numbers in black and generally printed with black ink unless noted. Many of them have Stamina Trousers adverts on rear generally with thoughts for the month or the name of a store. The car has been converted for one man operation but retains the MESCo's double lineouts that were replaced by single yellow lines in the 1940s. "Summer Car" 11 outside Mac's Hotel in Corio Tce. To the right is Strachan, Murray and Shannon's wool store whose facade still stands. The tramcar, shown in pristine condition was one of the two trailers motorised in 1913 with equipment identical to that of the Duncan & Fraser cars. They were built for use mainly on the new South route to the Barwon River. The coloured destination lights were from left: Red for GEELONG WEST, blank (later blue for the East route), white for SOUTH GEELONG and green for NEWTOWN. Side destination boxes have been added.
