Photographically printed black and white postcard with an impressed image of an ESCo tram just past the intersection of Doveton St. and Sturt St. travelling east along the north side of Sturt. Street towing a heavily laden horse tram as a trailer. Photo appears to be taken soon after opening of the electric trams, as the tram does not have any destination box above the driver. Possibly summer 1905/1906. Numerous people in the street, some horse drawn vehicles in the photograph. Has a very poignant message on the rear about the impact of the Great War.Printed coloured postcard of the Sturt St looking west from Grenville St. Has the two ESCO trams in the photograph, two horse drawn carts, cycles and pedestrians. In the middle of the photograph is the ESCo tramway waiting shelter, constructed in 1907. Has the Suttons building and D'Albora? buildings lettered in the photograph. The red printing layer is off register. The rear of the postcard has a central vertical line, with the word "Post Card" at the top, "Printed in Germany" on the left hand side and the number "B379 10" in the bottom right hand corner. Titled "Sturt Street, Ballarat looking West." along top edge of the photo. On the rear of the photograph has the words in pencil "Australia" and the message "Ballarat is a city in Victoria. Shows horse-drawn vehicles and one electric tram arriving at the terminus, late in the evening. Shows the little shed at the terminus, and buildings on either side of the Sturt St. People waiting around the tram stop. The tram seems to have a "color" light indicator above the driver. Titled "Sturt Street, Ballarat" in red ink in the top left-hand corner. On the rear of the card, has the stamp "R. M. Noy, Postcard collection", cancellation stamp of Ballarat East, 23.5.07, 1d Victorian stamp. Written to Miss Victoria Kemsey? of 225 Victoria Parade, East Melbourne, wishing her many happy returns on the day. Has the logo of WTP." in the top centre of the card. Divided back type. The system was offered to the City of Ballarat when the tramway operations were being tendered. Shows two open top double decker electric trams, the centre conduit, advertising Holdens Dining Rooms and the three story buildings in the background and a horse drawn coaches.In ink on rear. "16a" and "In 1885 Holroyd Smith of the United Kingdom sent a tender to Ballarat to construct a conduit tramway in that city, similar to the one he had constructed in Blackpool United Kingdom in the same year. Demonstrates the way the Australian Bi-Centenary and other celebrations were carried out with souvenir prints.Framed print of a horse drawn tram (3 horses) see Reg Item 699 at the corner of Sturt and Lydiard St, within a wooden frame, with non-reflective glazing. The print by the Harris House of Photography has been mounted onto a piece of Masonite. On rear are picture hanging metal loops and a wire hanging strip. The photo shows a large crowd on an 8 hours (Labour Day) gathered in the eastern end or lower end of Sturt St. The 8-hour memorial or monument is in the centre of the photograph. Has one double-deck horse tram in view along with many other horse-drawn vehicles. On the Ballarat Mechanics Institute building is an advert for "Morrey & Tyler, the Cash Drapers" at 11 Bridge St Ballarat. Also in the view are Ribble, Suttons, E Payne, the Ballarat Gas Co. building and a dentist along with other buildings. Yields information about the horse drawn tower wagon first used in Ballarat and has a strong association with some of the COTMA 1975 Conference participants.Colour slide, Kodak white cardboard mount, developed April 1975 of the first horse-drawn tower wagon at Sovereign Hill. This item was offered to the BTPS but declined as it did not have the storage space for it. Understood to have later been dismantled. Photo dated 24/4/1975. See also Reg item 7280 for another photo by David Verrier. The tall person in the photo is John Radcliffe, and standing next to him is Bill Kingsley, The person with his hands in his pockets is Peter Kahn, and behind him is Mal Macaulay and Rolf Jinks.
