In 1969, the quadrangle was completed by the addition of the southern wing which contains the council chamber, designed by R.E. Devizes is a medieval market town in the centre of Wiltshire, near Stonehenge and Avebury, and east of Bath. Amongst these was John Chew, who stole metal, and who was transported to Tasmania. He married in Tasmania, but descendants of his family settled in Victoria, Australia. Central Highlands Historical Association [CHHA] is a vital link in the regional history network being the umbrella association for over 30 historical societies, museums and family history organisations in the central highlands region of Victoria. CHHA continues to be an active and innovative organisation. It is represented at Local and State levels on matters of joint concern to its members. Aims and Purposes: Formed in 1984 the inaugural CHHA meeting was held on Saturday 23 June 1984, at the Ballarat City Library in Camp Street, Ballarat. Victory House, named after the 1902 Melbourne Cup winner The Victory, was built in 1906 near goldmines and was home to the family of Chinese goldmine manager James Wong Chung. The Chung family lived in the Geelong Road home until 2008, when it was sold. The home was widely known as a welcoming place that hosted large gatherings of Chinese people to celebrate culture and heritage. It is recognised for its strong links to Ballarat's goldrush history and Chinese history in Ballarat.
