George Gray (born 1835) was a pioneer fruit grower at Cleir Hills, Queenstown. He married Elizabeth Jane Edwards and had six daughters and two sons. He died in 1903 aged 68 years. He is buried in the Queenstown Cemetery. This photo forms part of a collection of photographs gathered by the Shire of Eltham for their centenary project book," Pioneers and Painters: 100 years of the Shire of Eltham" by Alan Marshall (1971). These were used for pressing the fruit in cocktails. The one with the twisted handle is a copy of the Christophe muddler. The makers mark WP B tells us that this was made in Birmingham, England but a fire destroyed many of the makers marks information so it is not possible to identify the actual maker.3 metal muddlers. Made from meal with carry strap, and a canvas bottom. Metal elliptical shape top has a hook each side which takes leather knitted strap attached to the bottom of the canvas bag.
