The original small, pioneer cottage was built in the late 1840s to early1850s, by an unknown pioneer. It was located on part of a 30 Acre allotment that was originally part of Dendy’s Special Survey granted in 1841. The doors and window sashes, (made of red deal joinery timber), as well as the brass locks and fittings, are from the original cottage, and were imported from England. The fire-place bricks are from the original cottage, and are sun-dried, (not kiln fired), and are hand-made. Convict marks can be seen on two bricks. There is a small display of external cladding shingles from the original pioneer cottage. These shingles were hand-split, and most likely made from locally collected timber The nails included in this display were used to fasten the shingles on the original cottage, and are also hand-made. The enamel nameplate, “Colonial”, on the wall of the cottage, was the name chosen for the original pioneer cottage when Mr August Reitman, a sculptor, began leasing the property in 1917. August purchased the property c 1935, for 1200 Pounds approximately and resided there until 1953.. In 1974 Mr Lewis, a timber specialist, found the dilapidated building on property he had recently purchased in Jasper Rd and suggested it be reconstructed and relocated. Moorabbin Council agreed and the cottage was rebuilt just about 250 metres from its original site. The cost of the rebuild was met by 'Victoria's 150th Committee, plus a small grant from the City of Moorabbin, and Mr Laurie Lewis donated much of the timber for the reconstruction. Although 'Box Cottage' is a re-construction, it is an unique museum that, being located in the midst of a modern community in Ormond Victoria, can educate and demonstrate many aspects of the early settler’s way of life in Victoria. The re-constructed pioneer cottage, named ‘Box Cottage’, is located only a matter of metres from the original pioneer cottage site, in Joyce Park, Jasper Road, Ormond, Victoria. The museum has copies of interesting Land Titles associated with the surrounding land, including the site of the original pioneer cottage, from Dendy’s time, and into the 1900s. ‘Box Cottage’ is named after the pioneers, William and Elizabeth Box, who resided in the original cottage from approximately 1865, until Elizabeth’s death in 1914.The re-constructed cottage plan has followed faithfully the original dimensions, and plan of the original pioneer cottage, and as many original items from that cottage’s long occupation have been incorporated. 4 Newspaper items, one headed 'Bendigo South' To Celebrate 150 years of Methodism in Golden Square held at Golden Square Uniting Church at 11am on Saturday June 23; re-enactment by Jim Evans of the first sermon by Jimmy Jeffrey, the Bendigo Chorale , the Bendigo Theatre Company, Bendigo Senior Secondary College Ensemble. Followed by an afternoon tea in the hall. The Reverend Peter Hoare will lead the worship service at Anne Caudle Centre at 2pm tomorrow assisted by members of the Kangaroo Flat congregation; another headed 'Uniting' a special dedication and musical afternoon will be held at Golden Square Church on Sunday October 12 at 2.30pm when further brick pavers inscribed with past worshippers names will be added to the Memorial Entry. Since the creation of this memorial at last years 150th anniversary several requests have been received for further pavers to be. Anyone wishing to include a memorial paver should contact Glenys on 5443 9451 or Barbara on 5443 6323. Sunday Worship at Kangaroo Flat at 9.30am Golden Square at 11am will be led by the Reverend Peter Hoare and will include Holy Communion. Lockwood worship at 10.30 am and will be led by Marilyn Hocking. Cluster Worship at Kangaroo Flat at 6.30 pm will be preceded by a shared tea at 5.30 pm. Royal Brighton Yacht Club
Award - 150 Year Celebration Cup

The Celebration Cup perpetual trophy was presented by Rod and David McKenna at the March Half Yearly General Meeting. Rod addressed the meeting, acknowledging that from its humble beginnings in 1875, the Royal Brighton Yacht Club has been a beacon of excellence in the yachting community. Over the past century and a half, it has grown not only in size and stature but also in the hearts and minds of countless individuals who have shared in the passion and spirit of sailing. The McKenna Family has over 232 years of total membership between them and have been involved in the Royal Brighton Yacht Club community since 1941 when Keith McKenna was first elected to the club membership and appointed Honorary Treasurer in 1950 for 10 Years. Keith’s wife Judith was elected to the club membership in 1981and acted as Treasurer for the Ladies Auxiliary for 35 + Years, both contributing to its growth and success through their unwavering support and dedication. Each of Rod and David’s grandfathers were also members while Rod and David continue to support the club in Race Management duties. The Cup is first awarded for the 150th Anniversary Regatta held on the weekend of 29, 30 March 2025, with winners of each class and Division honoured with a plaque on the Cup. The Deed of Gift accompanying this trophy allows for future celebratory events to preserve the legacy of our club for future generations. The original small, pioneer cottage was built in the late 1840s to early1850s, by an unknown pioneer. It was located on part of a 30 Acre allotment that was originally part of Dendy’s Special Survey granted in 1841. The doors and window sashes, (made of red deal joinery timber), as well as the brass locks and fittings, are from the original cottage, and were imported from England. The fire-place bricks are from the original cottage, and are sun-dried, (not kiln fired), and are hand-made. Convict marks can be seen on two bricks. There is a small display of external cladding shingles from the original pioneer cottage. These shingles were hand-split, and most likely made from locally collected timber The nails included in this display were used to fasten the shingles on the original cottage, and are also hand-made. The cottage was occupied by William Box and family from 1865 until 1914 when it was sold to William Reitman who resided there until 1950. The enamel nameplate, “Colonial”, on the wall of the cottage, was the name chosen for the original pioneer cottage by Mr William Reitman, when he purchased the property in around 1915, for 1200 Pounds approximately. In 1974 Mr Lewis, a timber specialist, found the dilapidated building on property he had recently purchased in Jasper Rd and suggested it be reconstructed and relocated. Moorabbin Council agreed and the cottage was rebuilt just about 250 metres from its original site. The cost of the rebuild was met by 'Victoria's 150th Committee, plus a small grant from the City of Moorabbin, and Mr Laurie Lewis donated much of the timber for the reconstruction. The original small, pioneer cottage was built in the late 1840s to early1850s, by an unknown pioneer. It was located on part of a 30 Acre allotment that was originally part of Dendy’s Special Survey granted in 1841. The doors and window sashes, (made of red deal joinery timber), as well as the brass locks and fittings, are from the original cottage, and were imported from England. The fire-place bricks are from the original cottage, and are sun-dried, (not kiln fired), and are hand-made. Convict marks can be seen on two bricks. There is a small display of external cladding shingles from the original pioneer cottage. These shingles were hand-split, and most likely made from locally collected timber The nails included in this display were used to fasten the shingles on the original cottage, and are also hand-made. The cottage was occupied by William Box and family from 1865 until 1914 when it was sold to William Reitman who resided there until 1950. The enamel nameplate, “Colonial”, on the wall of the cottage, was the name chosen for the original pioneer cottage by Mr William Reitman, when he purchased the property in around 1915, for 1200 Pounds approximately. In 1974 Mr Lewis, a timber specialist, found the dilapidated building on property he had recently purchased in Jasper Rd and suggested it be reconstructed and relocated. Moorabbin Council agreed and the cottage was rebuilt just about 250 metres from its original site. The cost of the rebuild was met by 'Victoria's 150th Committee, plus a small grant from the City of Moorabbin, and Mr Laurie Lewis donated much of the timber for the reconstruction. The re-constructed cottage plan has followed faithfully the original dimensions, and plan of the original pioneer cottage, and as many original items from that cottage’s long occupation have been incorporated. The Moorabbin Standard Newspaper was the local paper for the City of Moorabbin until it was absorbed by The Leader Newspaper Group Ltd. late 20thCentury. Mrs H. Deam and Mr A.
