Most scenes are from the 1930s and 1940s which was a time when photographing crime scenes was still a relatively new action. Many of the scenes are without context as the location or crime have not been recorded against the image. Some have been identified. The book was presented to the Ballarat School of Mines by Allan Bernaldo. Allan Thomas Bernaldo (b. 1900, Creswick. d. 1988, Melbourne) was a former student at the Ballarat School of Mines Technical Art School. In 1917 he was presented a medal 'for the most meritorious Art student'. He was known for his watercolours, and subjects such as horses and flowers. Bernaldo's popularity was at its height during the 1930s and 1940s. Brown hard covered book of 59 pages, with a black dustjacket that includes a painting of a vase of white flowers. This is an army officer’s hat from the Australian Army. It dates back to the 1940s before the word ‘Commonwealth’ was deleted in 1949 from the name of the military forces. The Australian Army has used the rising sun emblem in its official insignia since the early 1900s. The owner of this hat is not known. This hat has no known local provenance but is retained for display purposes.This is a khaki hat with an oval padded crown and a rounded peak. The top has four metal eyeleted air holes. The badge on the hat has the Rising Sun emblem. There is a brown leather strap round the brim attached by metal buttons. The inside of the hat has a blue cloth lining with a square of cellophane. These football boots belonged to Adrian Conway in the late 1940s. He was an actives sportsman in the Wodonga community including playing golf and football with the Wodonga Football club. Adrian was a son of Michael and Catherine Conway of Wodonga. He passed away in 2002. Dress owned by Catherine Ann Windsor (Kitty) (born 23 Nov 1919 died 17 Nov 2002) in the 1930s/1940s. She was grandmother of Rachael Cottle, Whitehorse Historical Society Secretary (2011-2016). Catherine was the gate-keeper at the Tunstall (Nunawading) railway gates at Springvale Road during 1934-1952. A house was supplied for the gatekeeper. Seven girls from the Geelong Legacy Junior Club in the early 1930s. The motto at the bottom says 'The torch you threw to us we caught'. Margaret Burn is the girl on the far right and her family donated the photo. Margaret attended girls classes with Geelong Legacy in the 1930s and Legacy helped her find employment when she left school. The Terminus Hotel opened in January 1884, coinciding with the opening of the railway. The hotel had a close connection with the railway, catering for travellers and relieving railway workers. In December 1903 the original wooden structure burnt to the ground. The hotel was rebuilt in 1904 in much the same form see Record No 00306. Mr Andrew Kelly of Nullawil took over the enterprise circa 1930 giving it a new look in the 'Art Deco' style of the period.
