Demonstrates how the SEC used enameled signs to convey instructions to passengers and confirm the advice of the conductor.,An enameled sign with black lettering and border on an off-white background. Lettering reads, "Passengers are requested to provide themselves with correct amount of Fare." Rust markings show on the face where the enamel has chipped. Two holes have been drilled in the sides to attach sign to the tram cab. Fares ...Yields information about the form used in Ballarat and Bendigo by the SEC to enabling ticket checking by Inspectors on the trams and how they were packaged by the printers for the SEC.Pack of 250 "Supplementary Trip Way Bill", form No. TYE 1-580, as would have been supplied to the SEC from the printers. Has been wrapped in a sheet of paper and the number "250" within a circle written on to the sheet. Was held with a piece of adhesive tape. See Reg Item 68 for the details and use of these. Principally around the number of tickets sold, punched and trips with the pay-in details along the lower edge. HP James notes the use of Bell punches of two types in his notes on tickets - see item 2541. See item 2531 for a 4d ticket that states it had to be Bell punched. Has space for 4d return, 1d night school, disabled soldiers, and various values of dockets. Also had space for their ticket journal and trip journals.Demonstrates the method in which conductors stored tickets and fares. Leather bag with outside pocket (for ticket wallet) with metal strips on openable section, fitted with steel catch, and adjustable shoulder strap. Has been fitted with a steel divider inside. Sewn heavy brown leather. White and brown cotton thread used. Details the history of the Bendigo system, take over by the SEC and the conditions of that take over by the SEC, reconstruction, financial losses incurred by the SEC, decline in passengers, its suitability, condition of the infrastructure and rolling stock. Its unsuitability to extend, effectiveness of the Geelong conversion, ability of private bus operators, tramway employees, methods of abandonment, tram tracks, overhead and impact on the electricity supply system. Has a table showing the income and losses and population from 1935 to 1967, a coloured graphical presentation of tramway statistics, sheet of Fares and Charges for Ballarat. Ephemera - Ticket/s, Block of 200 tickets - 13c, c1970
Yields information about the style and printing of tickets used in Ballarat and Bendigo tramways and how they were presented.1721 - Block of 200 tickets - black ink on off white paper, denomination 13c, lettered B278000 to B 278199, headed State Electricity Commission of Victoria, Provincial Tramways. On rear in black ink is a SEC advertisement "ELECTRICITY makes life easier" with the SEC's little boy wrapped in a towel logo. The 200 tickets have been stapled onto a heavy cardboard back with a heavy metal staple and a small cardboard retaining strip at the top of the ticket. The ticket number is in black ink. 1721.1 - ditto - B276200 to 276399 1721.2 - ditto - B282400 to 282599 See reference file for further information. Note. The 13c ticket was green from 1/9/1966 until the fare change in Jan. 1969. An audio recording by Mal Rowe at a dinner sponsored by the TMSV at the Wattle Park Chalet of Major General Sir Robert Risson, MMTB Chairman on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board (MMTB). Covers many topics about Melboune's trams, international experiences, fares, loan council, new trams, tickets, reserved track, rates, roads. Recorded the day before a two-day strike by the SEC workers which meant the Melbourne's public transport could not operate.
