... Photographs ...The first Isle of Wight Hotel was built in c 1870. It burnt down in 1925 and was rebuilt. The hotel was sold and was to be demolished for a new hotel to be built on the site, however before this could take place it burnt down again on the 22nd May, 2010. The site is still vacant (1/9/2016). Photographs donated by Lisa Schonborg.10 coloured photographs of the Isle of Wight Hotel Fire on the 22nd May 2010. ... Photographs ...A collection of 3 photographs with a page of notes on the West family. Solomon West and his brother John became pioneer settlers on Phillip Island. Solomon married Elizabeth Bryant in 1857 at St Andres Church of England, Brighton. Elizabeth died in 1895 on Phillip island and is buried in the Phillip Island cemetery. Archie was the son of William and Jane West who died tragically in the Bendigo rail yards at the age of 21. Jane was buried in the same grave in Bendigo. Nellie, William and Jane's 2nd child married Harry Alexander Brown and are buried in the same grave together with Nellie's father, William West.355-01: Coloured photograph of the grave and headston of Solomon West in the Bendigo Cemetry. 355-02: Coloured photograph of the headstone of Archie S. Photographs ...Eric Thake had a unique way of looking at the world, uniting a singular vision that found the extraordinary in the everyday, with a whimsical sense of humour and refined modernist aesthetic. One of his lesser-known commissions was a mural for the Victorian Manager’s office at the ETA Factory in Braybrook designed by Frederick Romberg in 1957. Photographed here by Kenneth Ross, the mural depicted a stylised map of Australia, with Indonesia above and New Zealand to the south, and showed the peanuts and other raw materials that ETA used in the production of various foodstuffs against a striking and entirely gilded wall.
