This display of butter was created by Mrs Jessie Petterson for the Harvest Festival. Ten pounds of butter was used. The Harvest Festival display was always put together by the church ladies ( Orbost Presbyterian Church) and was a family friendly festival celebrating the end of summer. The Harvest Festivals were regular community events in Orbost during the first half of the 20th century. This bookcase was from Fintona private school Camberwell Melbourne. Fintona was a Presbyterian school for girls founded by Annie Hughston in 1896 and was originally in Camberwell and now Balwyn, Melbourne. The daughters of Pompey Elliot attended the school and the bookcase contains one of their several awards. Colonial Australian cedar secretaire bookcase c.1880 with a piano lid action to the desk lid instead of the more common drop down type.Two door cabinet base with two deep shelves, desk slope inset with gilt tooled leather. desk has rear drawers and one secret compartment and lid. This is the story told by the Rev. C. Fraser of his two years as a Home Missionary of the Presbyterian Church in the Otway Ranges in 1891-2. The area covered was from Lorne to Peterborough. The booklet includes the names and activities of many settlers of the time and a description of the wreck of the Newfield. This book is of interest to researchers looking for information on the Otway Ranges settlers at the end of the 19th century. It includes names and events and gives an interesting insight into life in the Otway Ranges in the 1890s. This is a small booklet of 44 pages with a red cover and the title printed in black on the front cover. The pages have been stapled together. There are no photographs or illustrations. William Webster was born in England in 1848. He was ordained into the Presbyterian ministry in Melbourne for Middle Darling-Wilcannia, N.S.W. in 1880. He served in Inglewood Vic. from 1884; Kerang from 1889; St. Andrew's Oakleigh from 1900.
