The 67th Battalion was raised in mid 1912 as a local militia training battalion in Bendigo. During World War One, many of its members enlisted in the newly formed 38th Battalion which was raised in Bendigo in 1916. At one point it was a garrison battalion stationed at Queenscliff. It was disbanded in 1918 and became the area 38th Battalion. The colours were laid up in St Paul's Cathedral in Bendigo on October 25th 1929. In 2006, with the cathedral needing to carry out repairs and alterations, the colours were offered to Bendigo's Soldiers Memorial Institute Military Museum. On 17th April, 2007 under direction from RSM Ceremonial, the colours were re-laid up in the museum in a ceremony conducted by the Reverend Peta Sherlock and witnessed by church and RSL members after 12 months of planning and putting together..1) Middle banner in the photograph. The well known sculpture of English playwright William Shakespeare takes an elaborate bow before the Civic Hall, a performance and community center for Ballarat. The unique abstract and elongated mannerist style used in this cast bronze sculpture hints at the art deco style of the Hall behind. The sculptor, Andor Mészáros, was from Budapest but created much of his work in Melbourne. He also created works for Canterbury Cathedral in the UK and several carved stone sculptures for Sydney Hospital. The artwork was commissioned in 1959 through a widely publicised competition and installed in 1960. In addition to making sculptures, Mészáros was also renown as a creator of medallions. In 1951 he received 'the highest award' at the International Medallion Exhibition, Madrid and in 1964 he won the 'purchase prize' at the International Medallion Competition, Arezzo, Italy. From 1970 Mészáros worked with his younger son Michael, also a sculptor. In 2002, the City of Ballarat granted permission for Michael Mészáros to make a cast of the Ballarat Shakespeare artwork to create replica installed in Budapest. The Budapest installation commemorates Shakespeare's connection to the City and the achievements of Andor Mészáros. The artwork was unveiled by Mayor Arthur W. Nicholson. The statue was presented by L.F. North, general Manager of the Fidelity Trustee Company Limited, representing the late H.P. This is a medal awarded by the Warrnambool Bowling Club to William Kucks in 1900. The Warrnambool Bowling Club was established in 1867 with a green near the Royal Hotel in Timor Street. The club still operates in Kelp Street. William Kucks was a long-time resident of Warrnambool, operating a boarding house in the town in Timor Street in the 1860s and then a bakery in the same street for many years.This medal is of considerable interest as a memento of the Warrnambool Bowls Club in the early 20th century and of a well-known 19th century and early 20th century Warrnambool resident, William Kucks.This silver gilt covered medallion is diamond shaped with the edge incised into four small triangles and four curved and pointed shapes. The latter have four adjacent leaf shapes in relief. The centralised text is surrounded by a horseshoe of graduated, rounded pentagons. These shoes were worn by Emily Cock (nee Smith), the daughter of wealthy early settler John Matthew Smith. From 1856 until 1931 the Smiths lived at 'Castlefield', a mansion on a vast estate that at one time stretched along South Road from Bluff Road to Hampton Street. The land was gradually subdivided, and the house is now a part of Haileybury College. Julien Mayer was a French ladies shoemaker and prolific exporter who advertised his successes on the shoes themselves by stamping the soles with details of the prizes he had won.Pair of black kid leather shoes with low block heel, decorated with pink silk, cut-away applique and embroidery. Pink bow with metal clasp on one shoe; missing from the other. Edged with pink silk ribbon binding, largely deteriorated.Sole embossed with "MAYER / Julien / à Paris", in addition to tamped with three small medallions proclaiming the awards the shoemaker won in London in 1862, Porto in 1865 and Paris in 1867. The granite column is is 38 feet tall, and topped by the Angel of Peace.At the base is an Australian Soldier with head bowed which is carved in Italian marble. The monument is backed by a wall which has the names of 1100 soldiers from the First World War from Warrnambool and district. of whom 240 were killed.
