Forty-one faded gold edge page book with 'Album' stamped in gold on front cover used as Autograph book. Poetry and hand drawn art works date from 1908-15. Enclosed notes dated 20th July 2009 indicate that book was owned by Nora Ronald of 183 Wattle Street Bendigo, born 1892- 1968 and donated to BHS by Ron Hook 2/2 Gordon St Port McQuarrie via Ralph Birrell. Illustrations and poems with some containing WW1 aspects provide a valuable insight into one of Bendigo's socialite 'young lady's' interests. Three letters pinned together. The first is a handwritten letter to Mr Granger from Marie Crawford (Maranta) dated 5/5/32. She mentions that at the present time second mortgages are worthless for her experiences in investments first are of little value. Signed Marie Crawford (Maranta). The second letter is to the Secretary of Hanro from Marie Maranta advising that she has changed her name, by marriage to Mrs M Crawford and she authorises the Secretary to make the necessary alteration in the Register of Members. Dated 5//532. The third letter is dated the 9/5/1932 to Mrs M Crawford acknowledging her letter and notification of change of name. The Secretary also mentions the matter of alteration of 8% Preference Shares to Second Mortgage Debentures. This item has come from funeral directors Beattie and Phillips who have operated as funeral directors in Warrnambool since 1865 when Christopher Beattie and Henry Phillips commenced their business. They operated as partners until Henry died in 1896. Christopher continued until his death in 1916 when the business passed to his son Christopher who operated the business until 1945 when it was transferred to James J Leahy. The business was next to the Wesleyan church in Koroit St. Early advertisements cite the latest in services, vehicles and horses. This cloth could have been used to drape over coffins or seats. The society also has recently acquired a top hat worn by these funeral directors. An item which is associated with one of Warrnambool’s longest running businesses.Black rectangular lined cloth with ties on corners and diagonal velvet braid sewn in diamond shape in the middle. The "British Queen Hotel", in Bridge street, Bendigo was first licensed to Squire Barlow (1817-1882), a Lancashire man who came to Australia in 1853 with his two eldest sons, travelling on the "Goldfinder". His wife Mary (nee Taylor, 1814-1891) soon followed with the rest of their children. One more child was born in Sandhurst in 1856. Squire and Mary had married in 1838, "The British Queen" was taken over by John Crowe (1825-1882) some time after 1876. John had previously been the licesee of the Globe Hotel, also in Bridge Street. When John died in 1881, his son Robert Phillip Crowe (Phillip) transferred the licence to John Hope in 1882.Black and white photograph. John Austin Anderson was the son of Daniel William and Elizabeth Jane Anderson, and husband of Ethel M. Anderson of 312 Ripon Street South, Ballarat. John Anderson was a sergeant with the 2nd Australian Tunnelling Company. He was 34 years of age when he was killed in action in France on 01 July 1916. Map, Contour map of Surrey Hills showing potential sites for the Telecom Tower
The PMG / Telecom / Telstra tower was built in 1961-1963 as a relay station to support television and radio links between city and regional broadcasting stations. The tower itself was 45 m in height with a 2 storey building for equipment and staff surrounded by garden. From the beginning it was opposed by local residents. The location is said to be the second highest site in Melbourne, sometimes described as Delaney's Hill.Two A3 photocopied sheets of a map showing part of Surrey Hills, roughly between Windsor Crescent and Belmont Street (north / south) and Standard Avenue and Balmoral Crescent (east / west). The map shows contour lines and house sites, 16 of which are numbered. The Morelli M-100S 15 metre Italian sailplane first flew in 1960 and over 220 were built in Italy and France. The design was a development of the M100 incorporating changes to fit the international rules for “Standard” class competition gliders: thus the designation “S”. The name applied to the M-100 gliders built in France was “Mesange” This example has undergone major restoration to display condition by Museum volunteers. In the main the airframe is made up of the glider serial number 69 formerly registered in Australia as VH-GUD. The restoration incorporated parts of another wrecked M100 (serial number 71). VH-GUD was previously owned by Darling Downs Soaring Club (from 28 October 1967) and Beaudesert Gliding Club (from 30 October 1971). It was test flown in Australia on 28 October 1967 and logged 1533 hours 41 minutes from 2731 launches until it crashed and was wrecked on 11 February 1978.
