David Miller (Dave) Mair (1879-1938) married Lily Vipond Deakin (1890-1945) in 1910. They had 5 children: Geoffrey David (1913-1970), Beryl (1916-1976), Gwynneth (1917-1997), Isabel Lillian (1921-1997) and Shirley Inez (1928-1968). Personal communication from Laurie Newton, Beryl's daughter: Dave and Lily initially lived in East Melbourne after they married. Dave walked across the gardens to work at the MCG. He never drove or owned a car. Geoffrey, Beryl and Gwynneth were born in East Melbourne. They subsequently moved to Louise Avenue, Mont Albert and Isabel may have been born while they were there. Later they purchased 20 Barton Street, Mont Albert. Shirley was born after they moved to Barton Street. Electoral roll details: 1919 1922 24 Louise Avenue, Mont Albert 1924 20 Barton Street, Mont Albert Dave Mair was a very keen sportsman. This is part of a large donation of material from the Deakin, Mair and Young families. Fred Pitman Morris was born in Ballarat in 1872 and married Sara Lance in 1895. He was initially a telegraph operator before becoming clerk of the Eaglehawk court circuit. By 1923 he was a Secretary of the Sentences Board and by 1936 he was the Officer in Charge of Children's Courts. He was a prolific writer of hymns, particularly for the Chapman-Alexander Mission Party, an evangelical revivalist movement in the early 20th century. Robert Bruce Ness (1917-2004) came from a pioneer Kangaroo ground family and was heavily involved in the community. Bruce and Joy Ness were foundation members of EDHS. Bruce was a former Vice-President and committee member. He was a driving force for the establishment of the Andrew Ross Museum in Kangaroo Ground. His other involvements in the community included the Presbyterian Church, Cemetery Trust and Captain of the Kangaroo Ground Fire Brigade. A vintage 1950's hardcover children's book with the title Bonzo's Annual printed at the top in green lettering on the front cover.There is a large coloured illustration of the dog Bonzo riding on a rocket above the town rooftops with a smiling full moon in the sky. It is bound on the left side with faded grey fabric tape. The first cricket club in Kew in was formed in 1863, and played its matches in Wellington Street, and then later in O’Shaughnessy’s Paddock. In the early 1870s, a second club was formed and played at Victoria Park. The Kew Cricket Club gained its permanent name in 1888-89. One of the named players in the photograph - Albert Watson - was the son of the local Methodist Minister. The photograph entered the collection within a donation of items by Mrs Joy Ivory, a descendant of the Watson family, and a member of the Society.The photograph, dating from 1911 has local significance as an image of participation in sport and recreation.A monochrome photograph, mounted on card of the Kew Cricket Club's first XI cricket team in 1911.
