Hexagonal shape design on handle and arm blade with a thumb support at the handle angle, missing the bulb light and all the system to support it. Deep scratches over the top and under blade with presence of dust marks over the handle, arm and inside the blade canal. Also has a grey paint mark over the top blade area. Seven men were killed at the Great Extended Hustler's mine disaster on 2nd May 1914 by an explosion of dynamite occurring as the men were waiting at the plat to ascend the mine at the end of their shift. No blame was attached to anyone in the findings of the inquisition. It was unknown what caused the dynamite to explode. Three page typed document by Albert Richardson. Copy of handwritten document. Article details the events that surrounded the flooding that occurred at the Hustlers Reef Company's mine on 13th December 1873. The first building which housed Sunbury State School No.1002 was built on the corner of Macedon and Stawell Streets in the early 1870s and functioned as the local State School until 1912 when a sturdier red brick structure replaced on the same site. In 1999 Sunbury State School was relocated in the former Industrial School heritage buildings in Jacksons Hill. The existing building in Macedon Street was incorporated into the Sunbury Community Health Centre. Trial Bay opened in 1886 after 13 years construction. It was designed for prisoners who were low risk and nearing the end of their sentences. From here they would participate in Public Works projects. It was named Trial Bay after the brig "Trial" sank there. This ship had been commandeered by convicts in Port Jackson and forced to sail north. This photograph is part of the Caulfield Historical Album 1972. This album was created in approximately 1972 as part of a project by the Caulfield Historical Society to assist in identifying buildings worthy of preservation. The album is related to a Survey the Caulfield Historical Society developed in collaboration with the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) and Caulfield City Council to identify historic buildings within the City of Caulfield that warranted the protection of a National Trust Classification. Principal photographer thought to be Trevor Hart, member of Caulfield Historical Society. Most photographs were taken between 1966-1972 with a small number of photographs being older and from unknown sources. All photographs are black and white except where stated, with 386 photographs over 198 pages. Property now known as Eversley, formerly Nulmore then Brampton. From Caulfield Heritage Management Plan 1996 by Andrew Ward In 1888, C. Hume owned lots 61, 62 and 63 in the Kooyong Park Estate, on the northwest corner of Gladstone Parade and Clarence Street. In 1889 Thomas B. Jackson, architect, of Shoobra Road, purchased the land and in the same year built a ten roomed brick house on lot 63 and part lot 62. Jackson leased the property to William Dalrymple in 1890. By 1894, the property was owned by P. Langwill and leased to James Ainslie, an accountant. By 1899, Frederick Henriques had moved into the house, which was known as ''Nulmore". In 1910, the house was vacant. In 1920, it was leased to Augustine Barbeta who continued to live there in 1930. By 1934, the house was renamed ''Brampton". ''Nulmore" is locally important as an unusually imposing Elizabethan influenced villa in Caulfield, comparing with nos. 34 and 25 Gladstone Parade. Built in 1780 as the Berwick for the East India trade. She was badly burnt in a fire and was bought and rebuilt by the navy in 1786 and renamed 'Sirius'. After her arrival in Port Jackson, she remained as a supply ship and sailed to the Cape of Good Hope in October 1788 to obtain food supplies for the starving colony. Three pop festivals were staged in Sunbury. One in 1972 and a further ones in 1974 and 1975 . The 1972 festival was the most famous and followed on in the Woodstock tradition. The festivals were staged on a property on the banks of the Jacksons Creek, owned by the Duncan family. A crowd of partly clad people sitting or lying on the ground in a wide valley listening to a performance can be seen in the image. The area is litterred with cans, eskies, blankets, sleeping bags and tents. The photograph was part of a collection from a photograph competition organised bye the Sunbury & District Heritage Association in March 2001. It is a view of the former vineyard growing area in Sunbury which was situated along Vineyard Road. One of the remaining vineyards is visible in the photo. From 1860 to the early 1900s many vineyards were operating in Sunbury. This house, understood to have been built around 1858/59, and demolished around 1990, was situated along what is now known as the Linton-Naringhil Road. It was the home of the Rankin family - John and Catherine Rankin, and later their son Ewen and his wife Anna Rankin. The last member of the Rankin family to live there (until 1974) was Marjorie Jackson, a granddaughter of John and Catherine. Scottish miller and immigrant, John Eadie established his water-driven flour mill on Jacksons Creek in Sunbury in 1861.To make of a sufficient water supply to operate the mill, he built a weir and a water-race to drive it. Some of these can be seen today. The machinery for the mill was bought from Scotland and transported here. The mill continued to operate until 1914. At that time the 20 ton metal wheel and the iron roofing removed to aid the war effort.This mill is one of a number that were built along the water courses in the Sunbury-Bulla area to process the wheat grown in the area.A non-digital black and white photograph in post card format of a an old bluestone mill building sited on the bank of a watercourse in a deep valley with bare hills in the background. An extra room was added in 1945 to accommodate increased enrolment. In 1999 the school closed at the Stawell Street site and the students relocated to the former and refurbished bluestone Industrial School in Jacksons Hill. The former mill and weir shown in the photograph were sited on the banks of Jacksons Creek downstream from the town of Sunbury. John Eadie, a Scottish immigrant established the water-driven flour mill on the banks of the creek after he arrived in the colony in 1866. The mill continued operating until the outbreak of World War 1 when the metal wheel and iron roofing were taken and used for the war effort. The hill in the back ground with the trees and buildings was the site of the former Sunbury Asylum.
