Black and white print of bogie tram No. 22 and another single trucker at the City terminus, Sturt St, with the Town Hall in the background. A large number of passengers board and leaving the trams. Has a bus in the distance crossing Sturt St.. Tram has the destination of Sturt St. West. In the photograph are Anderson Paper Merchants, Terminus Cafe and Penfolds Wine shop. In the bottom right hand corner is an ESCo/SEC cable termination/switch box. 3217.1 - original photo ex SEC? 3217.2 - different crop - added 21/3/2021 - has more of the original image on the right side. On rear of photograph is a white dot with "5" in red ink, and in pencil "Car 22, renumbered as 37 in 1951 in order to consolidate the bogies cars from No. 34 onwards. This was the first bogie car to run in Ballarat and ran from 1945. Each copy consists of a chapter, one page titled "Early History", five pages titled "Part 1 - Horse Trams - Ballarat 1887 - 1905, Sebastopol 1893 - 1912, Ballarat East Nil" Notes on the construction of the tramway, opening, personalities, Julien Battery tram, and half a page titled "Bits of Interest". The 3rd chapter, 3 pages, titled "Part 2 - Electric Trams - Ballarat 1905, Ballarat East, Sebastopol 1912". Notes the early power supply history in Ballarat, opening of the electric routes, (conversion of horse trams to electric), and the purchase of new trams ex Melbourne 1930. Chapter ends with 3 short paragraphs notes on the SEC taking over, Conductresses during the war and reconstruction. Author - unknown - possibly the SEC, Les Denmead and others - notes the scrubber car still in service in 1969? Painted on treated white linen, banner used to celebrate Tram No. 27, reaching 1,000,000 miles. Has wording in large red capital letters "This tram has just completed 1,000,000 miles in Ballarat". Fitted with metal eyelets in each corner and centre of top and bottom edges. See Reg. Item 3316 for photo taken by The Courier on 29/6/1968. Has been folded for storage. Not known who made it - SEC or TMSV. 3315.1 - As above, but held by the BTPS since 1971. On rear in blue ink "Dash Banner, Car No. 27, 29th/6/68". Provides information about a system of safe working on a single line tramway or interurban railway or tram line. Has an illustration of the signal, coloured on the front cover. Gives details of the company, automatic electric block signals for 'railways' - interurban operation. The type K2-signal is one that can register up to 15 cars into and out of a section. Gives details, line diagrams and electrical details of this signal works, installation requirements and Trolley Contactors. Centre page has an electric diagram. Received by ESCo 4/11/1926.Yields information about a system on controlling vehicles on a single line railway or tramway section.Twenty page book, printed on art paper, centre page electrical diagram and light blue covers, titled "United States Electric Signals - Type K-2 Signal", with three centre staples. Single page copy of page 234 of the "Electrical Engineer and Merchandiser, October 15, 1949", titled "News of the Month". Reports on the recommendations of a report by H.H. Bell of the MMTB for trolley bus system to replace the existing tramways in Ballarat at an approx. cost of 198,000 pounds. Also reports on the MMTB Annual report for 1948/49 and the SEC installing FM radios into motor vehicles in the Midland area's patrol cars. Not know who made the copy or when.
