Folded map (5 x 3) by Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board, c1927, of Melbourne tramways, showing tram routes (cable, electric and VR), railway lines, major points of interest and major streets. Titled "Routes and Time tables showing first and last cars". On rear shows maps of lines for the Eastern, Southern, Connection to Beaches and the Essendon, Maribyrnong and West Coburg lines. Dated c1927, shows the St Kilda Road lines to electric. On the bottom right hand corner has a reference to the Tramway Tourist Car - and the tours it does. (Reg Item 800 dated March 1927, shows the tram under construction). Light purple cloth covered bound book, 48 pages "MMTB Electric Tramways and Motor Omnibuses Sections and Fares", dated April 1940. Though dated prior to the closure of the cable tram routes does not include cable tram routes. Book consists of one section, bound with sewn cloth binding on the outside with glued white paper end covers. April 1940 Details the various section stages and fares for each tram and bus route, General instructions, concession fares. 2nd copy added 5/5/2019 from donation of Barry Brooks ex Bob Prentice Collection. Set of 14 black and white photographs of the use of former sleeper transport car, W2 485 - see page 80 of Destination City 5th Edition for more details of the tram. Tram body being used to train emergency staff how to recover a tramcar that had been tipped over onto its side. DC5, notes it was stored at Preston workshops and later "used an instruction car to train emergency crews in the righting of the overturned trams. It was overturned several times in this role." Note: - would have been at the time, probably the only way to do this, as mobile cranes were only just starting to be developed. Truck is an AEC built Matador truck. Possibly these photos who the first time used as such, as one of the life guards was being cut off in the photos. 1 - tram on its side 2 - ditto - showing underside of tram 3 - pulling one of the bogies clear. 4 - cutting away a lifeguard 5 - pulling the other bogie clear 6 - setting up the chains to recover the tram - note the sleepers it is lying on. 7 - ditto 8 - starting to lift the tramcar 9 - rolling the tramcar upright 10 - tram upright and being jacked up to roll the bogies back under 11 - pushing a bogie under 12 - ditto 13 - as for 9 14 - as for 10 15 - similar to 9trams, tramways, training, emergency, accidents, recovery, mmtb, preston workshops, tram 485, w2 class, aec, r10 vehicle, works cars -

Yields information about the use of the Jelbart road roller by the Ballarat Tramways and the sale of a unit to the City of Ballarat.Set of documents concerning the Ballarat Jelbart Bros road roller that the SEC had purchased. .1 - Photocopy of part copy of a letter between Jelbart Bros and the City of Ballarat, dated 24/7/1923 concerning the purchase of a roller, guarantee and withholding a sum of money. Below the letter is an image of a roller with the name "Ballarat Electrical Tramways" written on it. .2 - Reproduction of a photograph of the roller pre 1936, working on tram track. The roller has the words "Ballarat Electric Tramways" painted on the side of it. Also one small bus. Has "G3" in pencil on rear. .2 - similar view but with a different vehicle mix - W2 317 (Richmond Route 28), an SW6 route 27 and another W2 (route 41). Includes one large truck carrying Land Rover boxes. Typed on rear "Enlargement of No. 72 - Sheet No. 26 (Report P25/1/8) and in ink initials and "For Testing Engs 1/11/51". .3 - View looking north along Swanston St Princes Bridge with a route 6 tram and Princes Bridge Station and St Pauls Cathedral.
