Financial record - Lydia Chancellor collection: Bendigo Gas Company and The Colonial Gas Association Limited
1. The Bendigo Gas Company formed in 1859, established the Bendigo Gas Works and became an incorporated company in 1860. It produced coal gas for the community until it was liquidated and delisted as a company in 1959. 2. The Colonial Gas Association was incorporated in 1888, selling shares for 5pounds and 10 pounds. It was originally formed in London with the aim of raising investment capital for the construction and maintenance of gas works across the cities and towns of Australia and New Zealand. Its original name was the Australasian Gas Association and this changed to the Colonial Gas Association in 1893.The Bendigo Gas Company notice of annual general meeting of shareholders for the years 1947 to 1952. Book - School Horticulture
Victorian State School's Horticultural Society was established in 1911 with the aims of distributing seed and bulbs to all member schools, to provided communication between interested teachers and to encourage seed and bulb collection and swapping between member schools.The book has a brown cover and red spine. Title: School Horticulture - a three-year course issued by the Victorian State Schools' Horticultural Society, first edition 1952, by E. F. Murnane supervisor of School gardening. The Miner’s Right has a long history in Australia. Still in use today, it was first established in Victoria in 1855, as a replacement for the Gold License (which had been introduced in Victoria in 1851). The Miner’s Right was subsequently adopted by other Australian colonies. Unlike the Gold License, the early Miner’s Right, in addition to the right to prospect for gold, also carried with it certain other advantages, such as property rights and voting rights.
