This old Rabone sliding square tool came from a small mixed farm in Emerald bought by Charles Alexander in 1920.This tool is emblematic of a time when settlers had to be able to perform a range of tasks including basic carpentry.This John Rabone 1902 combination square is marked out in inches on both sides of the rule. The measurements are further broken down into micro increments of 1/8 inch and 1/16 inch. This square had a 12-inch rule and a level bubble built into the stock. The cards in the album from the period 1907-1917 belonged to Florrie Greatorex nee Darby (daughter of Ben Darby who was the stepson of Emerald pioneer, David Charman of Brookdale). Florrie, born in 1897, spent her early years in WA. Most of the cards are from her grandparents and other family in Victoria. Florrie later married Charles Greatorex who worked for Carl Axel Nobelius of Gembrook Nurseries and lived in Emerald.
