Students from Mt Beauty Secondary College produced this set of 3 DVDs re the development of AGL's Bogong Power Development 2007-2009. This was an addition to the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme built by the SECV in the 1950s. The information covers many aspects of the Development which is of interest as well as being educational for the students. The request re the SECV Adit Shaft was to assist with the information board beside the shaft on the Gorges Walk on the West Kiewa River. DVDs were a digital means of passing on information to an audience and enabled multiple copies to be made. The Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme is in the Kiewa Valley producing clean energy for Victoria. The Bogong Power Development increased the production of electricity in line with more clean energy and gave locals employment and students an insight into its construction and issues. The technical aspect of using DVDs to present this knowledge was also part of the education for the local students. x3 DVDs with hard clear plastic box cover. The Drawings were to be used for manufacture of all the components of the Pikrose engine.Some of the Pikrose Engine was manufactured by Austin Hopkinson and Co. Ltd. The drawings belonged to the SECV and were created in the 1950s. The engine was used in tunnel construction.These drawings were used in the workshop of the SECV during the construction of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. Orchids, birds on the Bogong High Plains and surrounds and the SECV construction on the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme were topics of interest for the workers living there. Taping them would have been an interesting hobby for Jack Farrell.Jack Farrell (1920s - 1990s) worked for the State Electricity Commission of Victoria on the KHES. Nine pages of notes and one page of copies of parcel tickets between the years 1937 - 1972. Included is some of the history of the SECV tramways. Also a short history of the tramways in Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong. Descriptions of the various tickets, quantities, stock on hand and the number used during the year. After World War II, the Kiewa Hydro-Electric Scheme was started in the Kiewa River Valley by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria. On land previously used only for summer cattle grazing in the natural alpine grasslands, the first ski lodge was built in 1948 by workers from the hydro scheme as skiing was a popular recreation. Many of the hydro employees were of European background and had grown up enjoying skiing and snow sports in their homelands and were keen to continue to pursue their winter sports interests. The first lift, a rope tow, was built in 1951 at Falls Creek and the first chairlift in Australia was constructed there in 1957. Two T-Bars were opened in 1961. In 1964, the Victorian Municipal Directory recorded that Falls Creek had 29 ski club lodges and 16 commercial lodges. The area became a popular tourist destination for both winter and summer sports.: Employees of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria in the Kiewa River Valley were the earliest skiers on the Bogong High Plains and built one of the first ski lodges at Falls Creek. They were amongst those pivotal in the development of the skiing and tourist industry at Falls Creek and on the Bogong High Plains. Upon inspection, it was found that the side bearers of the tram body had spread, and the centre bearers had been severely distorted because of the impact. Repairs of this nature required costly engineering work and with the closure of the tramway being imminent, it was decided to place Car 11 in storage on 6 road until the cessation of SECV services in 1972. Work commenced on the restoration of this tram in 1975 and it returned to service in 1986, being painted in the SECV livery of the 1950s." Mt Beauty, South Riding, was part of the Shire of Bright in 1960/61. Mt Beauty was handed over by the SECV to the Bright Shire when the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme was completed in 1961.Mt Beauty was a construction town built in the late 1940s.Mt Beauty was a construction town built by the SECV and run by the SECV until 1961 when it was handed over to the Shire of Bright. Nissen Lodge was built by 1953 at Falls Creek. The first lodge at Falls Creek was built in 1947 by SECV staff members. By the 1954 Ski Season, Falls Creek Alpine Village had 10 club lodges, plus a ski tow house and a commercial lodge that both provided skier accommodation. Several other club lodges were under construction. The Nissen Alpine Club operated a rope tow with a 240m rise in altitude..Ski lessons were also available. Re: Tony and Skippy St Elmo Beveridge See KVHS 1113 By 1953, the SECV was issuing entry permits for private cars used by skiers with bookings in a Falls Creek lodge.The Nissen Ski Lodge was one of the early ski lodges at Falls Creek. Toni St Elmo Beveridge was involved in the early development of skiing at Falls Creek including assisting with the building of the early lodges, and establishing the Nissen Ski School. See KVHS 1113. The SECV's Home Advisory Service prepared this book to advise customers on the use of home freezers.They also assisted with advice and information on other electrical appliances. The SEC had Showrooms in regional Victoria including one at Mt Beauty where this booklet came from.The S.E.C.V. constructed the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme employing many workers. They built the townships of Mt Beauty and Bogong and assisted with the infrastructure required to support the influx of population. In the Mt Beauty shopping centre, one of the shops was the SEC Showroom which sold electrical appliances and gave advice on their use. There were two gateways at Mt Beauty. One at the West Kiewa River closing off entry to Mt Beauty township and another leading to the High Plains from Mt Beauty. The SECV published a quarterly magazine during 1948 continuing on from previous years and the following years. It covered all their projects throughout Victoria including the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. Bogong Village was constructed in the early stages of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. Employees of the SECV lived there before the town of Mt Beauty was constructed in the late 1940s. By 1997 the village was owned by Southern Hydro who didn't want a 'non-core service' and wished to sell it.The history of Bogong Village is that of a construction town that no longer has a use for its owner. However, it has an emotional significance for people in the area, especially those who worked and lived there. It is also a tourist attraction and includes the Outdoor School - Bogong Campus which was called the Bogong Outdoor Education Centre in 1992. Its history began in 1968 when the Victorian Education Department acquired the camp buildings and four houses from the SECV.
