Photo of tram 27 by the Ballarat Courier. Date of Photo. 29/6/1968, taken prior to the TMSV Tour of that date. Black and white photograph of a group of the passengers on No. 27 during the celebration of the tram reaching 1,000,000 (million) miles in Ballarat. The photo was taken on ANZAC Day 1985 at the Kangaroo Flat RSL service with Bill Forrest leading. William (Bill) Malcolm Forrest was born in Moora WA, enlisted 12.4.1951 No 5/1788 age 18 years and became a Sapper. After attending Battle School in Japan he then served with 3 RAR in Korea, DVA file states 12.7.1953 to 15.7.1954. He later went on to serve with 2 RAR in Malaya. He was discharged after 6 years service on 11.4.1957, discharge certificate states Active Service being 1 year 337 days. He re enlisted again on 11 3.1958 with Regt No 36283 and served another 17 years 165 days and was discharged with the rank of Sgt on 22.8.1975. The article refers to Mrs Doreen Crawford having spent 12 years as Assistant Secretary at the Bendigo RSL Memorial Hall until 1967, on leaving this job she took on a Visiting Officers role with Legacy in McKenzie Street Bendigo where she be looking after and visiting approximately 200 War Widows in their own homes as well as Homes & Hospitals. Page 18 & 19. The two photos re building sites pertain to the construction of the War Widows Flats in Kangaroo Flat about 1971/72. Page 20a. The B & W photo shows the completed War Widows Flats in Kangaroo Flat in 1973. This was a project by the War Veterans Homes Trust and the Bendigo RSL. Page 20b.
