The 1959 regimental camp was based on Beersheba Barracks Wangatarra and included wide ranging patrols in Ferret Scout Cars throughout north east Victoria. A regimental parade was held at the close of the camp and the regimental guidons paraded. This was the last camp before the National Service Scheme (1951-59) was abandoned. The 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles was raised as a regiment of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps on 1 May 1948 with Headquarters in Melbourne and squadrons in Sale, Benalla/Wangaratta and Albury. In 1955 Regimental Headquarters moved to Wangaratta and a second squadron was located at Albury. The Sale squadron transferred to 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse. This diorama is the introductory feature in the World War 1 Gallery - 1918 experience. Documents the history of the Shrine by interspersing images of war with returned servicemen's marches. The film shows archival images of Australia in 1914 and accounts from WWI, which gave rise to the campaign to build the Shrine in the 1920s. Gen.Sir John Monash, after consulting with Legacy, lent his support and it was opened in 1934 by the Duke of Gloucester, becoming the focus of commemoration in Victoria. The forecourt with the Eternal Flame was added in 1954 to commemorate the fallen of WWII and was dedicated by Queen Elizabeth II. Junior Legatees are shown paying their respects at one of their annual commemorations. This film has been digitised to preserve its content. Demonstrates the Museum's ticketing systems and ongoing production of tickets.Four Blocks of 100 tickets - black ink on off white paper, with ticket number in black ink denomination $1, headed Ballarat Vintage Tramway. On rear in black ink is an advertisement for the Tram Family Restaurant, corner Macarthur and Drummond St. North. This book was the last to be done by the SEC in Ballarat, closure occurred on 19/9/1971.Collins Diary No. 324, blue Rexene covers, sewn sections with ruled sheets providing a diary for 1971, 7 days and notes for each double page. Has "useful information" sheets at from the diary. Used by the SEC Ballarat depot to record brake block changes and light globe replacements on each tramcar. Also gives details on trolley rope and trolley wheel replacements. The last recorded entry was 14/9/1971, for fitting of second hand shoes to 34 and 42. There are only seven shipwrecks in Victoria that have had more than 100 objects recovered from them reported as a result of the Commonwealth Amnesty held in 1993-94. Anieura. Four-masted wooden schooner, 1328 tons. Built California, 1918 as the Oronite. Reg. Melbourne, 1928. Lbd 236.5 x 42 x 29. Last captain, de Carteret. Stripped of anything of value at the Yarra Street Pier, Geelong, in 1932; burnt to recover her copper and brass, and sunk off Avalon Bach, two kilometres east of Point Lillias. She had been seized for debt. @ Her wreckage is scattered and overgrown, covered in light silt in 4 metres. [NWR],[LC],[NSC]A relic from the broken up Barque 'Anieura' in 1932/33: BARQUE ANIEURA. Left to Sink in Mud. GEELONG Monday -The hulk of the barque Anieura, which has been idle in Corio Bay for more than four years, was towed to a spot near Bird Rock on the northern shores of the outer harbour on Monday. The Anieura was built for the timber trade and made a journey to Australia. The owners then decided that the vessel was unsuitable for this trade, and she was sold to an Australian firm. The ship was placed in Corio Bay, and remained at anchorage for about three years before an effort was made to sell her. This being unsuccessful most of the fittings, were disposed of, and the hulk was taken to Fletcher's pier to be out of the way of shipping. The Victorian Salvage Co's offer to the Geelong Harbor Trust to dispose of the hulk was accepted. The 300 tons of road metal ballast was removed, and a quantity of timber taken out. The vessel was towed through the channel this morning and run aground near Bird Rock just outside of the north-east extremity of the bar where it is away from shipping. More timbers will be stripped from the vessel, and it is likely that she will be allowed to sink into the mud. The Argus Tuesday 4 April 1933. The Bendigo Chamber of Commerce and Industry was constituted in 1886 with the vision to be the single voice for the business community across greater Bendigo. ‘Be.Bendigo’ is the trading name of the organisation ‘Bendigo Business Council’ which was formed in 2008 as a merger between two Bendigo business organisations: The Bendigo Chamber of Commerce and Central Victorian Business Network (CVBN). Upon the merger, Bendigo Business Council continued the functions of both the Chamber and CVBN by providing advocacy, networking and events to members and partners.Large minute book/journal - 381 pages of hand-written minutes of meetings of the Bendigo Chamber of Commerce. The Picturesque Atlas of Australasia was released in 42 supplements between 1886 and 1889 and attracted over 50,000 subscribers. Produced by the Picturesque Atlas Publishing Company in Wynyard Square, Sydney. The company was established in 1885. Edited by Andrew Garran. For detailed information search the website of the National Library of Australia. Thirty-three parts. Volume 9 to Volume 42. Volumes 1 - 8 and 28 are missing. Light tan coloured covers have a printed central rectangular double border. The title and publication information and illustrations are printed inside the border. The illustrations included are Captain Cook, a sailing ship and a sprig of wattle. The pages include many black and white illustrations. Volume 16 Separate map of Fiji. This Volume covers Bendigo as one of Victoria's country towns Volume 27 Includes separate Railway, Postal and telegraph map of Queensland. Following the death of his only child Mervin on 23 December 1916 at Magdhaba Egypt, Mr Justice Higgins HB has a small number, possibly as few as six, of memorial books made. He sought permission from Signaller JC Campbell to use a selection of photographs taken at Gallipoli and Egypt. The photographs together with typed copies of several letters written by Captain MB Higgins 8th ALH make up the book. It seems likely this copy of the book was given to the 8th Light Horse Association for safe keeping. Following the closure of the Association the last secretary Mr Matthew Maynes entrusted the book to a relative Mrs Baily to be donated to the 8/13 Victorian Mounted Rifles.This is a rare, historic and artistic example of how one family sought to come to terms with the loss of their only child in the Great War 1914-1918.Leather bound album of 44 leaves containing collection of photographs taken by Signaller JC Campbell and typescripts of two letters written by Captain Mervin Higgins 8th Australian Light Horse AIF during WWI. The 8/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles enjoyed a long friendship with members of the 13th Australian Light Horse Regiment (AIF) Association, hosting an annual visit. This pewter was presented to the 13th Light Horse President on such a visit and was returned to the 8/13th in 1980 when the 13th ALH Association closed.Rare example of the close affiliation between a regiment of World War 1 (1914-1918) and its descendent regiment in the post World War 2 (1939-1945) era.Silver plated mug with handle and inscribed on both sides.On one side "13th Australian Light Horse Regiment A & C Squadron, 8/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles dated 9th May 1959" and on the other side "This cup is to be held by the current President of 13th Light Horse ( AIF ) Association.
