A regular event for the widows was a concert by the Police Band in the Fitzroy Gardens. It was held in March for many years. The concert in 1994 was a success with beautiful weather. Over 740 widows attended. The Victoria Police Concert Band was led by Musical Director, Inspector Michael Pyne. There was a performance by the Police Pipe Band. Singer Brian Carbery performed. The photos show the widows sitting in the sunshine and the band including the police drum horse Gendarme. The article about the horse says it was the first appearance by 'Gendarme 5' who took over from another horse that passed away last year. Photos also included Legatee Eddie Jowett with a widow, and Legatee Charles Munnerley and Joan Miller, who both work on the Legacy newsletter. Miss Olive Codling was a Foundation Member and a Life Member of the Wodonga Historical Society. Many of her prize-winning photos are held in the Society Collection. She also held a range of roles and committee positions in a wide range of Wodonga community organisations. WODONGA's 3rd Police Station and Court House were constructed in Elgin Street, Wodonga. The Court House had to be relocated after the earlier building had been destroyed by a fire in 1964. In 1966, the new Wodonga Police Station was built but lay empty and idle for about three months. The reason given was that no furniture was available. After this situation was remedied the station was opened on December 23, 1966. The previous police station was vacated and pulled down. The new station was built in front of the new court house, which had been operating for approximately 12 months. The Police and Court House continued to operate on this site until they were again relocated in 2002. Issued to Leslie J Robertson of Sackville St Kew to assist in protecting the stores in Elizabeth Street, Melbourne.The 1926 Police strike was an important event in Victoria's history. The Bacchus Marsh Police Barracks shown in this image were located in Main Street on the site of the present day Police Station. The Barracks were constructed around 1857 or 1858. Prior to this the Police were stationed in the Police Paddocks at Maddingley in the area where Maddingley Park is now located. This building was in use by the Police until 1930 when it was replaced by a new building. This later building was in use until the early 2000s but was demolished in 2003 and replaced by a larger Police building.Small sepia unframed photograph on card with gold border framing photograph.
