John Emery was a tailor who had a business in Raywood. He moved to Bendigo where he set up his business as a tailor, draper and clothing mercer at the corner of Pall Mall and Mitchell Street. The shop was close to the Beehive Exchange, where he invested in the quartz mining companies. He took on a partner, T S Gibson, who was a clothier. Emery was involved in the Bendigo Bowling Club and St Paul's Church. Later he travelled and became a collector of curios. He donated sculptures to the Bendigo Art Gallery and loaned a number of paintings. The T Shirts were worn by the men and women who attended the Over 50's exercise classes at the Sunbury Community Health Centre. The exercise classes were established in 1986 and were initially conducted in the Scout Hall in Miller Street. The instructor was Kate Tremlett. the classes were later moved to the Community Health Centre and have expanded into three groups as well as weight programs.A white cotton short sleeved T Shirt with ribbing trim around the neck. Photo donated by Margaret Clarke, daughter of Stanley D.Livermore who enlisted in 1915. Roll of Honor used to hang in Mechanics Institute Hall which was on the site now occupied by the Scout Hall, Canterbury Road, Vermont.|Ron Clarke took it home when old hall was pulled down. It was just about falling to pieces but Ron wired it up and photographed it. Demonstrates post card making by a major postcard manufacture, late 1960's and yields information about Sturt St at night.Colour postcard with serrated edges of a Ballarat bogie tram at dusk in Sturt St, parked in City Loop. with Town Hall in background. Tram has destination of "CITY". Photo includes illuminated Paterson, T&G, Myer and the Vegas theatre signs. Has many parked cars in Sturt St, with red lines from the tail lights of vehicles moving on image.
