These ribbons were worn on the Clarendon Ladies College (CLC) uniform summer and winter hat. The CLC accessories were worn in the 1900 - 1910 era. After 1920 the school changed its name to Clarendon Presbyterian Ladies College and the crest reflected ths change. Prior to the early 1900s students wore dark skirts and white blouses and ribbon ties. Formal photographs taken at Speech Night saw the girls in frilled and lace white dresses. Amelia (Millie) Bennett, born 1872 at Linton, was the daughter of William Garnsworthy Bennett and Susan Bennett née Williams. She married William Charles Allen in 1901. They had two children, William Henry, born 1901, and Josephine, born 1910. Millie Bennett died in 1948. Photograph is dated 1909 by inscriptions on front and reverse. According to its inscription, the photograph was taken on a holiday at "Inverleigh" (=property name rather than town name?), during which an afternoon was spent "on the Honeysuckle". "Mrs James Wishart" (who in 1909 was still Miss Ethel Bersey) is identified in black marker pen on the back of the photo as one of the people in the photo. Ethel Bersey/Wishart may be the woman in a dark dress, standing in the foreground on the rhs. The first weekly number of The Girl's Own Paper appeared on 3 January 1880. As with its male counterpart The Boy's Own Paper, the magazine was published by the Religious Tract Society (which subsequently became Lutterworth Press). In October 1929, the title became The Girl's Own Paper and Woman's Magazine but in 1930 the Woman's Magazine became a separate publication. In December 1947 the name was changed to The Girl's Own Paper and Heiress. By 1951 it was called Heiress incorporating the Girl's Own Paper. In 1956 Heiress closed down, and the name "Girl's Own Paper" ceased to exist. J. Hossack was probably James Hossack. The game was played across paddocks from Trafalgar Street, Mont Albert to Whitehorse Road and down Victoria Crescent to where Box Hill TAFE is now located in Elgar Road. There were problems with cows eating the tee flags! The clubhouse still exists as 30 Trafalgar Street. No 3 Beatty Street is in the background.
