Footwear, Spats, wool, 20thC
Spats, a shortening of spatter guards are a type of classic footwear accessory for outdoor wear, covering the instep and the ankle. Spats are distinct from gaiters, which are garments worn over the lower trouser leg as well as the shoe. Since the mid-19th century, soldiers of various nations, especially infantry, often wore leggings or spats to protect their lower leg, to keep dirt, sand, and mud from entering their shoes, and to provide a measure of ankle support. These spats are of a type commonly worn to protect good shoes early 20thC and may have been part of a soldiers uniform c 1914A pair of khaki wool spats with 4 buttons and leather strap, with metal buckle, to pass under instep.MADE IN ENGLANDfootwear, spats, army uniform, clothing, knitting, craftwork, wool, world war 1 1914-18, world war 2 1939-1945, early settlers, city of moorabbin, bentleigh, mckinnon, ormond, moorabbin, post war settlers, hunt ailsa, -

After World War II c1947, the Commonwealth Government Health Department took over the Heatherton Hospital to deal with tuberculosis when it became a major problem in Australia. Machine - Dairy, Milk Separator manual, c1900
A separator is a centrifugal device that separates milk into cream and skimmed milk. Separation was commonly performed on farms in the past where farmers milked a few cows, usually by hand, and separated by letting milk sit in a container until the cream floated to the top when it could be skimmed off by hand. Some of the skimmed milk was consumed while the rest was used to feed calves and pigs. Enough cream was saved to make butter, and the excess was sold. Manual rotation of the separator handle turns a mechanism which causes the separator bowl to spin at thousands of revolutions per minute. When spun, the heavier milk is pulled outward against the walls of the separator and the cream, which is lighter, collects in the middle. The cream and milk then flow out of separate spouts. Montgomery Ward was founded by Aaron Montgomery Ward in 1872.as a mail-order business in Chicago, Illinois USA. Rural customers were attracted by the wide selection of items that were unavailable to them locally and were also inspired by the innovative company policy of "satisfaction guaranteed or your money back".This milk separator is typical of the type used by early settlers in Moorabbin Shire where every family owned a 'house cow' to supply their dairy needs. Households also kept a few chickens for eggs and developed a vegetable garden with additional fruit trees. The Circuit was built in the 1950's and opened in 1956. The circuit was closed in 1962 due to lack of finance for repair work to the track. In 1964 Len Lukey purchased the cirtuit and reopened in 1967, but once again was closed in 1978 as not suitable for modern racing. It was used only for Historic Rallies and the like until 1982. In 1985 The Circuit was purchsed by Placetac Pty Ltd. The Circuit was refurbished in 1988. In 1989 The Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix - 1st World Championship Round - was held at the Circuit on 9th April. 2004 the Circuit and surrounding land was purchased by The Linfox Group who still own it to this day (8/10/2016).Black & White aerial view of the Phillip Island Grand Prix Race Track with Bass Strait in the background and painting of 1932 Grand PrixJ.
