Jonathan Harris operated a winery on the banks of the Axe Creek, Axedale in the 1850s.A camp oven 31 centimetres diameter. It has three legs on the bottom which are three and a half centimetres long, The pot is 25 centimetres diameter on the bottom 13 centimetres high and 30 centimetres diameter at the top, It has a partly curved lid which is three centimetres high and has a one centimetre wide and seven centimetre long handle on top. Probably brought to the area by Chinese miners or shopkeepers. It was used to weigh small items at a time when goods were often paid in gold. In could also be used for weighing opium. In China it was known as a Dotchin. Creswick had a large Chinese population which arrived circa 1855 and established the Chinese Camp (now Calembeen Park) plus other satelite camps in the area. In 1859 there was over 1,000 residents in the area and many operated as shopkeepers. Joined pieces of wood (bamboo), violin shape case joined with brass rivet together. The document was written by Marian Kennedy, a signalwoman in the Australian Special Wireless Group in Brisbane in World War Two. This group intercepted Japanese Morse Code messages and their transcriptions were sent to Central Bureau for deciphering. The sheet contains a list of procedure signals for messages in Japanese Kana code. These procedure signals enabled wireless operators to assess the context of the messages and their probable importance. Secrecy was paramount as the Japanese military were unaware that their Kana code had been broken.
