The Government Gazette of September 28, 1888 advertises the acceptance of a contract of 276 pounds for the purchase of a "Pillar gasalier for Library, New Law Courts". The area under the dome was obviously found to be poorly illuminated and the purchase of the pillar light was approved. A table for the library had been approved in January and these two pieces of furniture were to complement each other.The gasalier pillar is of state significance as a unique survivor of gas light illumination. It is an important part of the interior decoration of the library, contributing to its intact 19th century furnishings.The gasalier has a blackwood base, with an elaborate serpentine brass fit out for the lighting with etched glass shades. The gasalier is topped by a small figure of an emu, on the lower finials are kangaroos. While originally designed for gas the gasalier was converted to electricy in the early 20th century.

Cato Park Plaque. The information on the plaque states the name change from Victoria Reserve to Cato Park in 1930. Victoria Reserve was gazette in c 1914 then had a name change in 1930 to Cato park. The Park renamed after Frederick J. Cato in contribution to his generosity to the Stawell community. The Norman Oliver collection. Norman Oliver was three times Mayor of Bendigo - 1950-51, 1964-65, 1970-71. Three typed pages, titled Opening of the Legal Year 1971. A scrawl in red ink over the front page. Mentions that 1971 marks the centenary of the gazettal of the municipality of Sandhurst as a city. This is a match box holder that has been produced as a souvenir of Warrnambool. It was possibly made to commemorate the gazetting of Warrnambool as a city in 1918. The holder features the Warrnambool crest which was designed in the early 1850s by the first teacher of the Warrnambool National School, John MacDonald. He also suggested the motto, ‘By These We Flourish’. The crest has been modified over the ensuing years.This is an important souvenir of Warrnambool as it is a high quality one and features the crest of the City of Warrnambool as used early in the 20th century. This is a gold-coloured piece of metal with the ends folded or sheeted over to form a rectangle with a flat base and an open top to hold a packet of matches. The front of the holder has attached a metal image of the crest of the City of Warrnambool. The image is in gold, white and dark blue. The original licence for the Sans Souci Hotel was granted to A. G. Ventry in 1909. The hotel burned down on 15.06.1923 and was rebuilt. It burned down again in 1936 and the licence surrendered 21.12.1936. with the owner compensated with 475 pounds and the occupier 50 pounds. (info Victoria Government Gazette Thursday December 24 1936) The hotel was at Upper Bemm River near Club Terrace in East Gippsland.This item is a contemporary pictorial record of a building which was once a popular destination for adventurous tourists in the early 1900's. A small book owned by Accountant & Auditor Harold Curnow dated 23/2/60 detailing "An Act to consolidate the Law relating to the Sale and Occupation of Crown Lands." on page 61 it also has a 2/10/61 newspaper article and a June 27, 1962 page from the Victoria Gazette both of them detailing the Laws. The first page is written as following "Harold Curnow 1958. VICTORIA ANNO SEPTIMO ELIZABETHÆ SECUNDÆ REGINÆ No. 6284.
