Used in the 1930s in the Forests Commission's Erica Forest District by a rigger for cutting the top off spar trees to be used in high-lead logging. The advent of crawler tractors after the Second World War brought about the end of high-lead logging. The saw was adopted in the 1940s by the-then Assistant Forester of Erica (James McKinty) for cutting firewood for domestic purposes; this use continued until about 1987. This is an exercise book containing the Minutes of the Boomerang Club from 1936 to 1942. The Boomerang Club was a Warrnambool social club that was formed some time in 1934 and continued until at least 1956. By the late 1930s there were nearly 200 members who took part in activities that included dinners, balls, dances, Christmas parties and picnics. Profits from the Boomerang Club functions were donated to local charitable organizations. This is a significant item as the Boomerang Club was an important social group in Warrnambool in the mid 20th century. This is an exercise book with a black cardboard cover taped at the spine. The pages in the book are lined in blue and the entries are handwritten in blue and green ink. The cover is stained and blotched. There is a white sticker on the front with the contents listed. The lapel badge was worn to signify membership of the Ladies' Harbour Lights Guild. This badge was issued to honorary workers. In the earliest days this status indicated the member as a 1 guinea subscriber to The Harbour Light Guild. "Worker" members subscribed just a shilling but were required to contribute time at the Mission with hosting and facility maintenance. The form of logo indicates this badge as possibly dating back to the 1930s. They were also dedicated volunteers who organised many social functions and events to offer visiting seafarers an opportunity to relax, have fun and socialise away from the ship. The LHLG which became known as the harbour Lights Guild after WW2 amalgamated with the Flying Angels in the 1960s, therefore these badges are primarily of historical interest. A Couta boat is a type of sailing boat originally designed and built in Victoria, Australia, around Sorrento, Queenscliff and along Victoria's west coast as far west as Portland. It was originally used as a traditional fishing boat from around 1870 until the 1930s, although it survived as a commercial fishing vessel until the 1950s. These badges and buttons belonged to Major Charles Rogers, a well known Warrnambool personality of the 1930s, 40s and 50s. He was a Light horseman who was in the Guard of Honour for the Duke of Gloucester in 1934 when he opened the Melbourne Shrine of Remembrance during the Victorian Centenary Celebrations. In Warrnambool he was a well known horseman leading parades and celebrations and judging equine events for the Warrnambool Agricultural Show. He died in 1961, These items are of interest as they belonged to Major Charles Rogers an important 20th century Army person. The use of a catheter for oxygen therapy was introduced by Arbuthnot Lane in 1907. However, its true value can be seen in its use during WWI. Masks were cumbersome and uncomfortable for the wounded and nasal delivery of oxygen was received more easily. The Tudor Edwards' Spectacle-frame was manufactured in London during the 1930s. Dr Penn recorded that it was an inefficient means of oxygen therapy because of the smallness of the nasal tubes.Metal mask resembling spectacles with round frames and rounded ends of the arms to secure around the ear. There is a tube coming from each round eye frame to end in a curve that sits in the nostril. After visiting and photographing the houses where Anthi Chilianis has lived since she arrived in Australia in 1921, Anthi and Olga Black proceeded to South Melbourne to explore the area where Anthi and her husband had owned a business in the 1930s-1940s. They stopped at Cafe Sweethearts, 263 Coventry Street, South Melbourne to enjoy a coffee break.
