"The Blood Chit" carried by all United States Air Force Flight crews operating in South Vietnam, the "blood chit" so nick-named by flight crew - was designed to assist in the safe return of downed flight crew. The "chits" message - written in 15 languages - identified the carrier as a US citizen seeking food and assistance. Each "blood chit" was serially numbered and registered to assist in identification by US Forces. This one was issued to Squadron Leader Alan R Reed during his tour of duty in South Vietnam with the US 12th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron. COMRADES IN ARM THEN AND NOW: Soon after arrival at the USAF'S 12th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron in South Vietnam in 1968, Squadron Leader Alan Reed was assigned in an almost new Phantom RF74C (AF67442) Reconnaissance Aircraft - nicked name "Carolina Kangaroo" along with its crew chief, Sgt Dale Miller. The trio operated as a team for the remainder of Alan's tour of duty. In 1981, while serving in the USA as the Australian Air Attache, Alan (now an Air Commodore) visited Bergstrom Air Force Base during a major USAF exercise. By sheer coincidence he again met up with Dale (now a Lieutenant) and his old RF4C - still operational but now sans the Carolina Kangaroo emblem.Black and Gold Framed Article of "The Blood Chit"- Accompanied with U.S.A. Leo Charles Roy Pallamountagne was born at Moyhu, Vic, Aus. and at the time of WW 1 was employed as a farm hand on the property of Mrs Ellen McCormack (nee Power) at Ovens Vale, Victoria, Australia. Ellen's husband, John McCormack, had deceased 1916. Leo was born at Moyhu, Vic. 1899. He enlisted for service abroad on 30/8/1916 and was posted to the 21st Battalion, Serial No. 6829. Leo's next of kin was nominated as Clara Pallamountagne of Benalla, Victoria. Leo's father was listed as "whereabouts unknown" at the time of Leo's enlistment. Leo was wounded in action in France, Oct 1917. Leo returned to Australia on 10th March 1919 and was discharged on 17th April the same year. Leo (or Leon) married Evelyn Mary Paxman in 1922, they had seven children. Leo died on 23rd April, 1941 at the Military Hospital, Caulfield. Address in 1931 was Pier Street, Dromana. Liberation Day still looms large in the Dutch consciousness and would have done even more so a mere 10 years after the event. All kinds of commemorative articles were produced.A smallish mug used for drinking milk. It is decorated with items celebrating 10 years since the Liberation from German occupation. Mike said that he took this flag from a body or a bandit who got in the way of bullets. In 1966 Mike Wells was Operations Advisor from 1966 - 1967 at PhuocSilk Viet Cong flag for placement over the body of North Vietnamese soldier. Flag is blood stained.
