These books celebrate the 130th anniversary of the establishment of the Warrnambool Art Gallery. This Gallery is owned and operated by the Warrnambool City Council as a memorial to Sir David Fletcher Jones who was nationally known and a leading citizen in Warrnambool for many years as a businessman (Fletcher Jones and Staff) and as a philanthropist. The Warrnambool Art Gallery was founded in 1886 and is the third oldest institutional collection in Victoria and the fifth oldest in Australia. This book is of considerable interest as it reproduces many works of art from the Warrnambool Art Gallery, a highly significant collecting institute in Warrnambool. These are two copies of the book containing 130 reproductions of works of art (both in colour and in black and white) held at the Warrnambool Art Gallery. It is a soft cover book of 128 pages edited by Vanessa Gerrans. The cover designed by Ian Robertson has a white background and the shapes of the Warrnambool Art Gallery logo have been used as multi-coloured windows containing details of each of the 130 reproduced works. The title of the book is in black print. Rohde, of Gerang, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Woorak, March 2nd, 1949.The dress was handmade by the bride, Marjorie Schneider.A charming frock of ivory cloque, inset with a yoke of beige lace with scalloped edges, cut on very flattering lines. The bodice, fitting perfectly to the waist and the back having a row of buttons, was ornamented as the shoulder with a diamante clip which had adorned her mother's wedding gown. The full skirt was draped softly from the waist, & extended into a long train at the back. The halo of orange blossom, which held the veil in place, set off to perfection the exquisite bride. This book by Carolyn Rasmussen contains biographical material on Maurice Blackburn and his wife Doris. Maurice Blackburn was the founder of the Melbourne legal firm with a business still operating today under that name. Maurice and Doris Blackburn were prominent 20th century independent Labor politicians and community activists, influencing conscription laws, benefits for working men and women, atomic bomb tests, civil rights and indigenous recognition. They had friends in Warrnambool and enjoyed visiting the city on a regular basis. This book is of historical interest as a biographies of two well-known Victorian politicians of the 20th century and is of minor local interest as the Blackburns were regular visitors to Warrnambool. As part of a program to acknowledge the Anzac Centenary Nillumbik Shire Council partnered with Yarra Plenty Regional Library to provide a bus tour with commentary of local sites of significance. These included Eltham township, the Shire of Eltham War Memorial at Kangaroo Ground, Christmas Hills, Hurstbridge memorial recreation park and finished at Eltham Library to view the Writing the War exhibtion at Eltham Library Community Gallery. This Warrnambool Botanic Gardens Study and Report was funded by the National Estate Grants Program of the Australian Heritage Commission and the City of Warrnambool. It was monitored in progress by a Steering Committee consisting of representatives of the Botanic and Public Gardens Advisory Committee, the Warrnambool City Council, Friends of the Warrnambool Botanic Gardens and National Estate Grants Program representatives and community representatives. The Warrnambool Botanic Gardens were first sited close to the Hopkins River in 1859. In 1869 the gardens were relocated to the present day location in Botanic Road. This plan is of some importance as it gives an overview of the history and current condition in 1995 of the Warrnambool Botanic Gardens and draws up a plan for its future development. It is useful for research and for consideration by the City Council today of policy making and further development of the gardens. This is a publication containing a master plan for the Warrnambool Botanic Gardens. It has a section on acknowledgements, a summary, eight chapters, and 14 appendices. The pages are bound with plastic rings, the front cover is plasticized with an aerial photograph of the Botanic Gardens and surrounds and the back cover is lightweight cardboard. Mr and Mrs Strange lived in Clayton Street, Ballarat East. This photograph is likely taken from their home, and it may be their children and friends heading off to school one morning.
